1st Slate (1968?-1976)

Visuals: On a white background we see the EUE/Screen Gems logo in a black box on the top right, along with a round rectangular peephole in the center. Small black labels are stacked to the left underneath linear blanks. "AGENCY" and "CLIENT" are labeled in the top left corner, followed by "PRODUCT" "TITLE" & "COMM'L NO." underneath blanks that extend across the slate. Below, "LENGTH" and "DATE" align with each other, leaving a space in between.

Variants:

  • A tab may sometimes cover the peephole.
  • The peephole may appear larger, as seen in 1975 episodes of Vegetable Soup.
  • Starting in 1973, a digital computer countdown would be used in front of the peephole.

Technique: 2D computer animation, or none.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on 1968, Surveillance: Who's Watching? and Vegetable Soup.

2nd Slate (1979?-198?)

Visuals: There are blank outlined boxes on a white background. On the top-right is the EUE/Screen Gems Video Services logo, which is Columbia Pictures' then-current print logo but with "Columbia Pictures" replaced by "EUE/Screen Gems Video Services". The boxes are labeled "Agency", "Client", Product", "Title", "Commercial No.", "Length" and "Date" in that order. The boxes for "Agency" and "Client" are smaller in width, and the boxes for "Length" and "Date" share a column, with the box for "Length" being much wider.

Variants: When used at the beginning, some numbers appear near the top-center.

Technique: None. 2D computer animation for the variant.

Audio: Just beeping sounds as the numbers appear in the variant.

Availability: Known to have appeared at the end of a print of A Cosmic Christmas and the beginning of a syndication sales reel for Hawaii Five-O.
