Background

Eagle Pictures is an Italian film distributor founded in 1986 by brothers Stefano and Ciro Dammico. The company distributes titles from Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures in that region.

1st Logo (1988?-2000)

Visuals: On a grey radial gradient background, there is a dark blue triangular prism lying down and sliding up from the bottom. More shapes are seen coming towards the triangular prism to form an upside-down "V" shape. It flips, turns around and then shines, releasing the words "EAGLE PICTURES" in white as it zooms out.

Technique: Early CGI animation.

Audio: A descending synthesizer morphing into a majestic held-out orchestral note.

Availability: Found on early movies distributed by the company such as: The Dead Pitt, Hell Raiser and Most Valuable Primate.

2nd Logo (2000-2018)

Visuals: On a dark blue background with flashing lights, a grey and metallic upside-down triangle is seen spinning and zooming out, settling in the center. Then, it flashes to transform into the same symbol from before and the words "EAGLE PICTURES" appear from a laser. Everything shines until the text disappears and the upside-down triangle turns into lines, then flashes into a white screen.

Variants:

  • A short version exists where it starts with the triangle turning into the symbol.
  • On DVDs from Eagle Pictures, the white screen zooms out to reveal a DVD Video logo, taking up the whole screen.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: Ambience noise with a loud bang when the triangle stops moving. Electric noises are heard when the letters appear, followed by a loud, descending bass drop and finally another sound resembling a rocket launching.

Availability: Can be seen in Italian prints of many movies from this period such as A Time for Dancing, Along Came a Spider, Sidewalks of New York, Rush Hour 2, among others.

3rd Logo (2004-2018)

Visuals: The logo looks similiar to before, but with a different rendering. On a blue gradient background with moving searchlights, the upside-down triangle (which is now transparent and thinner) flies and spins while going to the center. One of the searchlights moves over the shape, turning it into the same symbol from before with "EAGLE PICTURES" appearing letter by letter by zooming and fading out. Shortly after, the logo is split into multiple pieces, opening into a white screen.

Variant: Early DVDs with this logo have the same variant from before.

Technique: CGI designed by Frame by Frame.

Audio: Same as before.

Availability: Can be found on Italian prints of many movies from this period until 2018 such as Babysitter, Insurgent, Astro Boy, and The Fighter. Used in tandem with the previous logo until 2018.

4th Logo (2018-)

Visuals: A light blade cuts a close-up of a steel surface in half, briefly opening it before cutting to various shots of the company's name emerging and expanding in depth while light passes by over it. After a few shot changes, it shows the same V-shaped logo from before but with the text "EAGLE PICTURES" in a more futuristic font as it faces the screen and zooms out while a light reflection is on the letter "S".

Variants:

  • A short version of this logo exists on The Truth About The Harry Quebert affair, where it starts with the V-shaped logo.
  • There is a longer version that starts with the steel upside-down triangle. Then light blades appear cutting it in half and opening it, then there is the close up of the company's name emerging. The rest of the logo plays as normal, however, the light shines at the end to form the logo, then the final shot plays normally.

Technique: Cool CGI.

Audio: A dramatic orchestral fanfare with an emphasis on percussions.

Availability: Seen on Italian prints of movies from 2018 onwards. One of these newer films that contain these logos is an Italian print of The Addams Family. Don't expect this logo to appear on Italian prints of Paramount Pictures films as well as home video releases from Disney in that region.
