Background

Edko Films Ltd. is a Hong Kong film distribution company founded in 1950.

1st Logo (November 20, 1992-1998)

Visuals: On a starry night background, there is a dark hill. Suddenly, a shooting star flies under the hill. Then, a metallic golden emblem with the company's name in both Cantonese and English appears at the middle of the screen.

Technique: Motion-controlled animation.

Audio: A bombastic synth fanfare.

Availability: It is known to have appeared on Cantonese prints of Porco Rosso and Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, as well as Speedy Video's English dub of the latter.

2nd Logo (1998-)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a stylized lowercase "e" with a sun emblem. Then, the text in both Cantonese and English fade in appears saying "Distributed by EDKO FILMS LTD.", Then a red line extending until it stops into the said company's name and logo.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the name was just simply "EDKO FILMS LIMITED".
  • In the later years, the logo is now smaller.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Can be seen on Anita and its director's cut. It precedes the Columbia Pictures logo on Chinese and Hong Kong prints of The Karate Kid (2010).
