Background

Embrafilme was a Brazilian state-owned company created on September 12, 1969 for production, funding and distribution of Brazilian movies. The company was dissolved on March 16, 1990 by the National Privatization Program, launched by the government of the former president Fernando Collor de Mello.

1st Logo (1977)

Visuals: A white square outilne with a rounded, abstract "E" over it, zooming in. "embrafilme apresenta" fades next to it.

Technique: Motion-controlled animation.

Audio: The opening theme.

Availability: Shown on Conversa com Cascudo.

2nd Logo (April 21, 1978, 1987?)

Visuals: On a black background, a shining flare draws an yellow-green colored "C", and then continously spins. When it settles in, the "C" is wiped out by path and then wipes in twice. A bright ball of light occurs behind a square, and one more piece is drawn by the flare, forming the rounded abstract "E". The ball of light lowers and a white square outline fades in. We slightly zoom out in way for the words "EMBRAFILME" and "APRESENTA" to flash in below.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A deep, loud theme made of bells.

Availability: Intact on the VHS release of O Cortiço.

3rd Logo (February 19, 1987)

Visuals: A yellow outlined shield within "distribução" and the rounded abstract "E", within a thick yellow arc with "EMBRAFILME" embedded in an arc shape.

Technique: A still printed graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Shown on Anjos do Arrabalde.

4th Logo (Late 1980s-1990)

Visuals: On a black background, a green surface slides and rotates in, from the bottom-left corner to the middle. When it settles at the middle, it then reveals an abstract shaped "e". Then, the company's name in white fades below.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Intact on the Ipanema Video release of Barra Pesada, and Uma Escola Atrapalhada.

5th Logo (1989)

Visuals: A flickering filmstrip with segmented lines expanding the further away appears with a red-blue glow surrounding it, zooming and sliding in. The filmstrip then reappears in a red-yellow gradient, sliding down more further, with two semi-circle and bottom cutouts. Two abstract shapes fade in to represent the number "20". The sprocket holes fade out, and then a white color rises in, turning the passed ones into green. When it gets more to the top, the company's name in green flashes above, and the separated "ANOS" fades below. The white color on the lines scrolls in an endless loop.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Only known to be shown on Doida Demais, O Grande Mentecapto and Os Trapalhões na Terra dos Monstros.
