Family Productions

Background

Family Productions, Inc. was the production unit of The Family Channel (now Freeform), formed in 1990 after the CBN Family Channel was spun-off from the CBN company and then renamed to the aforementioned name by new owners International Family Entertainment. The company generally handled the network's scripted series and TV movies, and operated concurrently with The Family Channel Originals (which generally handled the network's game shows and distributed series, though they also used their logos on FPI series/films) and MTM Enterprises (which was purchased by IFE in 1993). Family Productions was dissolved after being renamed to Fox Family in 1998.

Visuals: Over a navy blue background, the logo starts with the tall, outlined letters "FPI", with "FAMILY PRODUCTIONS INC." in a smaller font underneath it, swinging out onto the center. In the background, three grey parallelograms fly around, with one of them resting at an angle behind the text. At the top, there is "AND" while at the bottom, a copyright notice.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The closing theme of the show.

Availability: It was seen on the first two seasons of Big Brother Jake, which is long gone from television.

2nd Logo (September 12, 1993-September 30, 1995)

Visuals: On a grey background, there is a filmstrip with splashes of yellow, blue, purple and red paint inside it. A child's hand holding a crayon sketches out the words "FAMILY" (in the Family Channel's corporate font of the time) and "PRODUCTIONS" (underneath "FAMILY", in a smaller, jumbled-up font) in the center. After a moment or two, the hand returns and taps the middle with the crayon on the center, turning the filmstrip into a moving CGI one. Inside the other squares on the filmstrip, there is "FAMILY" in orange and "PRODUCTIONS" in a straighter font. Then, "FAMILY" pops out of the center filmstrip and bulges out before settling in the center. "PRODUCTIONS" fades in underneath the word and a light shines on the text.

Technique: Rotoscoped animation and CGI.

Audio:

• A descending synth scale and a sketching sound. Then, a child's voice (which is synthesized/echoey) going "Hee-hee-hee!", a piano note and sparkles when the hand reappears, and another descending scale ending in a triumphant 2-note fanfare alongside a filmreel sound.
• On Big Brother Jake, a cut-down, narration-less version of the theme song finishes over the logo.

Availability: Appeared on Baby Races, That's My Dog, and the final two seasons of Big Brother Jake.
