Background
This was the home video division of Filmways Distribution, founded in 1983 as a deal made with Video Classics to distribute their releases on VHS, but later dropped the label and make a deal with K-Tel Video in collaberation with Video Tape Center, creating Filmways VTC. After that deal fell through and it made a deal with Vestron Video International, it reverted back to its original name. Even after Filmways was renamed to Filmpac Holdings in 1986, it was still used as a label for Filmpac Video until it was discontinued sometime around 1989.
Logo (Mid 1983-1989)
Visuals: A videotaped version of the 1981 Filmways Distribution logo, but at the end, the text "HOME VIDEO" fades in directly below "ilmways". The chroma-keying around the filmstrip is also refined, "ilmways" is closer to the "f", and the map of Australia fades in at the bottom right corner of the screen when the filmstrip moves to the left.
Variants:
- From 1983-1984, the text "Released through VIDEO CLASSICS" fades in below the logo at the end.
- Sometimes at the beginning of tapes, "PRESENTS" fades in after the logo forms.
Technique: Analog computer animation.
Audio: A higher-pitched version of the Filmways Distribution logo audio.
Availability: Seen on early Australian VHS prints of The Evil Dead, as well as The Naked Country, Hostage Tower, For Your Height Only, The Search For Weng Weng, Goodbye, Norma Jean, and many other titles.
