Background
Fisher Communications was an American media company based in Seattle, Washington. Its flagships were the KOMO TV & radio stations in Seattle. It was acquired in 2013 by the Sinclair Broadcast Group.
1st Logo (1999-2003)
Nickname: "The Red F Flag"
Logo: On a black background, we see a red flag with a white "F" waving. The text "FISHER", with "BROADCASTING" smaller under it, appears below the flag and glows.
FX/SFX: The flag waving back and forth, the words underneath the flag glowing.
Music/Sounds: A simple 3-note synth jingle followed by a male voiceover (Al Vanik) saying "Fisher Broadcasting".
Availability: Extinct.
Editor's Note: None.
2nd Logo (2003-2007)
Nickname: "The Red F Flag II"
Logo: On a red background, we see the name "FISHER" in white. The camera zooms in on the "H". There is a quick glimpse of the word "communications", then a green circle with a white arrow tilting upwards. They quickly fade to another screen, with a white background and a red "F" flag-like logo on top. Underneath is "FISHER communications" and the byline "Based in Seattle" below it.
Variant: Some stations that were formally owned by Fisher at the time (now owned by Sinclair), like KATU for example, didn't have the byline "Based in Seattle" below the logo.
FX/SFX: The rapid shifting from a zoom-in shot of a letter to a green arrow to the "F" flag, the materialization of the bylines.
Music/Sounds: Same as the first logo, but the jingle appears to be a bit more synthesized and Al Vanik says "Fisher Communications".
Availability: Extinct.
Editor's Note: None.
3rd Logo (2007-2009)
Nickname: "The Red F Flag III"
Logo: On a computer-like background, we see some words appear before the familiar outline of the red "F" flag comes into view along with the "FISHER communications" name. Two different bylines are screen swiped below the logo: one is "Founded in Seattle", the other is the NASDAQ listing of the company.
FX/SFX: Words and numbers cycling throughout the background, the icon subtly waving as if it was a flag, the bylines swiped on the screen.
Music/Sounds: Same as the second logo.
Availability: Extinct.
Editor's Note: None.
4th Logo (2009-2012)
Nickname: "The Red F Flag IV"
Logo: On a black background, various items fly past the screen. Years/decades are written in a huge white font and follow a sequential manner. Some of them have objects attached to them such as a microphone, a retro black-and-white television set and a space satellite. As we zoom past the first 0 in 2010, we see the similar "F" flag on a black background with a sun rising over a dark horizon (akin to the opening seconds of the then-current Universal Pictures logo). Underneath is the familiar "FISHER communications" byline, "1910-2010" and the copyright information (the latter two in smaller white text).
FX/SFX: Lots of zooming text, the sun rising in the background, the flag icon shining.
Music/Sounds: The same jingle as the first logo, but Al Vanik is saying A century of service and innovation, Fisher Communications.
Availability: Extinct.
Editor's Note: None.
5th Logo (2012-2013)
Nickname: "The Red F Flag V"
Logo: On a black background with golden gradient streaks of light, we see various network idents rapidly flash by until it morphs into the distinct red "F" flag icon. The copyright year (2012) pops in to the 2 note beat of the jingle.
FX/SFX: Various network idents cycling at a rapid pace, shining points of light gleaming from the upper corner of the logo and the last digit of the copyright year (2012).
Music/Sounds: Same as the second logo.
Availability: Extinct. The logo was retired when Sinclair Broadcast Group bought the company in mid-2013.
