Note: Not to be confused with Fortune Star Films Co. (Hong Kong).

Background

Fortune Star is a media company owned by Star China Media, which is also owned by China Media Capital. They were founded in the 90's to hold Star's film catalogue. They are still around today.

1st Logo (2000-2001)

Logo: On a black background, a moon shaped line forms a circle with a line in the middle. The line turns to reveal a "T", as the other letters unveil themselves to form the logo. After they are settled, a line forms underneath with "P I C T U R E S" fading underneath the "FORTUNE" and "STAR". The blue light goes to the right and fades, leaving us with the logo.

FX/SFX: The letters forming, the blue light, and the line.

Music/Sounds: Twinkling as the "O" forms, wooshes as the letters come in, and a laser-like sound when the line forms.

Availability: Rare. Only seen on early prints of their catalogue, including a 2001 VCD of Game of Death.

Editor's Note: Although this logo is alright, it was likely a placeholder for the logo below, hence the short timespan of its usage, with the logo below plastering this.

2nd Logo (2001- )

Logo: On a black background, a light spins to form a circle. A blue light shines and we zoom though it to see a line separating an "O". The line spins to be a "T", and the other letters show up to form the logo in a manner very similar to the previous one. The blue light fades to become a star between the text "FORTUNE" and "STAR", as a line forms, underlining the text and forming a curved line that goes upwards inside the star.

Variant: A still variant exists where the print logo is seen on a black background with the words "DISTRIBUTED BY" above it and a Chinese translarion of the company name below it. This variant has been spotted right after the normal logo on prints of various films, including the original live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy.

FX/SFX: The letters forming the logo, the line going under the letters and star, and the blue light. Really good CGI!

Music/Sounds: Whooshing as the circle is spun, and all the other letters forming in motion. Some twinkling is heard when the line is forming under the logo.

Music/Sounds Variant: The logo may appear higher pitched on some films from the company.

Availability: Current and common. Seen on all of Fortune Star's film library. Strangely, the logo appear in CineMo airing of Send in the Clowns (1986 Tito, Vic and Joey movie), due to the fact that Fortune Star made involvement in the said movie (this is the reason Cinema City credited here cause the Fortune Star logo to be appeared), note that Send in the Clowns was dated in 1983. Appears on Hong Kong prints of My Name is Khan, whereas in the US, India and worldwide have the Fox Searchlight, Fox STAR and 20th Century Fox logos in front of it.

Editor's Note: This logo looks quite nice for 2001, and it's got a nice, moody and mysterious atmosphere that makes it a very cool logo.
