Hello to all of our users. Today, Miraheze has announced that they are currently planning on sunsetting and eventually discontinuing their services altogether by August 31st of this year. A copy of this message may be seen below:

While they have raised the possibility of a change of plans on this, Miraheze’s future currently looks to be very uncertain, and because of this and the possibility that they may close altogether following recent internal drama, we have explored a number of options and have decided that we will be moving to WikiTide, a free wiki hosting service that is run by former staff members of Miraheze and also runs on MediaWiki. You may have seen that the wiki was briefly closed to new edits earlier today. This was done in order to generate a textdump of the wiki to port over to the new wiki (we also plan on importing our images as well), and we apologize for the inconvenience. The WikiTide wiki is currently private until it’s completely set up, but we plan to regain our custom domain name (avid.wiki) there and revert the Miraheze wiki (aka this one) back to miraheze.org. Your edit counts on the wiki will be able to be carried over to the new wiki once it opens to the public via requesting WikiTide staff. Additionally, once the new wiki is completely set up, this wiki will be closed but remain open to the public (effectively being put into read-only mode), and we will make an announcement with a link to direct you to the new wiki.

Thank you for your attention and understanding!

So the worst case scenario had happened.

This is pretty sad tbh, from Qualitipedia closing to the entire wiki closing, I'll miss you Miraheze and thanks for giving me good memories.

And for now, let's move on to a new era of AVID, shall we?

As someone who was once on the Qualitipedia staff, I don't consider its closing a bad thing at all. You can look up reviews elsewhere, and wiki-based reviewing was far from a good concept anyway.

WOW! This was a big surprise when I discovered it a few minutes ago. When the WikiTide wiki is complete, I'll be requesting to have my edits transferred over 100%

2020 again.

Except our new host was founded by ex-Miraheze staff and also uses MediaWiki, so things should go much more smoothly.

It was a great run on Miraheze. At least it won't be a pain migrating to WikiTide.

I have a question: When the wiki is moved to WikiTide, will it be exactly the same or will it be a bit different? I'm just curious.

Also, I'd like to help out setting up the wiki in WikiTide. What I want to help out with is mainly moving the pages over and uploading images. That way I would have played my part in helping this hopefully smooth and worry-free transition. I can't wait for the move to be complete!

The wiki has already been fully backed up and the transfer is being handled by the admins/bureaucrats. We don't have to do anything, when the new wiki opens it'll be pretty seamless.

I heard that Miraheze is not going to shut down anymore, because there was some miscommunication. How is this gonna affect the wiki on Miraheze?

Umm, how long will it take for AVID to move to WikiTide and how's progress on that as well?

Also, when i tried logging on to "https://avid.wikitide.com", i get an permission error message saying:

"You do not have permission to read this page, for the following reason:

The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups: Members, Administrators."

Camentai already actually told me that the site is restricted only to staff since they are working on the migration, but i'm looking foward to it anyway.

Yeah, even AVID will be stay for this Miraheze side.

Only temporarily though.

Why not call it off?

Miraheze's situation is still pretty uncertain, and most of the Miraheze volunteers (who we already trust compared to the new Miraheze team, for now) have moved on to WikiTide/WikiForge (the latter is our current target). WF even promises some features such as ReplaceText (which Miraheze had to cut) and a better search function.

WikiForge? Hmm, that might be a good idea Trevor807.

All drafts and sandboxes prior to the first temporary shutdown have been transferred to the WikiTide site, so the answer is yes.

Hey Camentai, i'm looking forward to AVID moving to WikiTide once the migration is complete within two weeks time.

I can't wait IMO.

"all edits made after the initial closure will be imported"

Does it include file uploaded after wiki re-opening, too?

And will user rights besides those listed in the error message that Mike K got when he tried to log in be imported from the Miraheze site too? I do plan on migrating to the WikiTide wiki once it's finished, but exactly when I'll start editing there (besides doing so after the migration is completed), I have no clue.

Our custom domain will be directed to the new site.

Files created after reupload will likely be saved too.

Yes, user rights will be carried over.

Hello again to all of our users. It was recently announced that the plans for Miraheze to shut down have been called off and the site will remain in operation. However, we still plan on moving the wiki, this time to the services of WikiForge, which is part of the same project as WikiTide. WikiForge is normally a premium wiki hosting service, but a former Miraheze steward has offered to pay the hosting costs for us on the platform, which we have accepted. Note that you will not need to pay fees to sign up for or edit the wiki.

Why WikiForge?

Along with the offer, compared to WikiTide, WikiForge has a number of extensions, such as CirrusSearch and RelatedPages, some of which Miraheze was unfortunately forced to cut due to resource issues. These extensions will allow us to add new features that will improve the user experience on AVID.

What will happen to this wiki when we move?

Once we move to WikiForge’s services, this iteration of the wiki will be closed, but will remain viewable to the public until it is deleted under Miraheze’s dormancy policy. Fear not, however, as both text and image dumps have been and will be made for our new host. A link to the new wiki will be provided further below and, once the wiki is open, a link will also be provided to the new wiki via SiteNotice.

Will my edits and images carry over?

Yes! We have a text dump of the majority of the content on the wiki ready to go and, once we're about to move to WikiForge, we will import the last edits made to the wiki after the initial temporary closures. An image dump of the majority of the wiki's images has also been made, and the rest of the images made after that dump’s creation will be imported separately to the new wiki. All edits from users will also be carried over from this iteration of the wiki, and they can be added back on to your account by signing up under the same username as this wiki or asking a WikiForge staff member if you decide to join under a new username.

Where can I pre-register for the new wiki?

avid.wikiforge.net! The wiki is still under construction, so you won’t be able to view its contents for the time-being until it’s ready to launch, but you are more than welcome to make an account ahead of time! In fact, it would help to ensure your edit history is smoothly transferred over. When the move is completed, the domain name will become avid.wiki, just like this wiki’s!

We’re excited for this new chapter in AVID’s story, and we can’t wait to see everyone on the new wiki! If you have any questions regarding this move, feel free to contact a staff member!
