You might notice that the wiki has several problems that have been occurring for the past year, including frequent outages that went on for days, various glitches, server errors, and other mishaps.

Because of said ongoing problems, we have explored other options to host our wiki, and a few months ago, we have negotiated with and finally got a good deal and arrangement with MyWikis, a wiki hosting service that has been around for a good 10+ years.

Our admins have finished backing up images and pages for the past two months and the migration will begin in a few days. Therefore, effective immediately, the wiki will be temporarily locked down from editing for the time being.

The wiki's forum would still be open for posting however. Once the new wiki is set up, we will inform you again to create new accounts on the site.

Thank you for the attention and please stay tuned to the AVID community Discord server or the forums for further updates.

Okay! That was a brief visit in wikiforge! I just saw the new platform and I have a question: What plan are you paying for?

Thank you for your service, Wikiforge. Now we are yet again onto a new era of AVID!

  • if i swear this period is only 1 month i will legit fall off a cliff*. Seriously, WikiForge in the latter 6 months was a good thing. The early 6 months were not good but yeah, I hope y'all don't move to yet another wikifarm after this move. Hopefully a UI refresh follows. One thing though is WikiForge won't display AVID Sans Book and the school blocks the images, therefore it may be good.

Be glad this wasn't WikiFoundry though!

Actually, it's been more than a year since we moved to WikiForge.

Additionally, if we do go through MyWikis, I found out unless y'all paid for enterprise, we would have to downgrade to LTS, as that is the cost, and OSCA would need to be a bigger payment.

But why? If we should continue editing, creating drafts and uploading new images in AVID, why did you make the option to migrate to Mywiki?

Stability in the long run according to Logoarto. However we would need either the Ultra (personal) wiki plan or the Enterprise (business) plan. I think AVID has one of those two plans.

How do you know? I joined AVID in 2023, so I'm new. How do you know these things if the AVID Staffs recently announced that they will migrate us to MyWikis?

Educated guessing. I researched MyWikis' prices and saw what our wiki would likely need. Therefore, I came up with my theory. If an admin steps in and corrects me, go ahead.

I have not edited on this wiki a while ago, but when I see the notice, it seems that I'm gonna make my new account. I hope that the migration will be better.

As I say, thank you WikiForge for providing that for a year.

Alas WikiForge, it has been a good run.

As for the MyWikis migration, I am being cautiously optimistic about this...

Yeah, three. After seven years with WikiFoundry we moved to Miraheze in 2020 after continuing issues with Travis (WikiFoundry's owner who we had a very stormy relationship with), then to WikiForge last year due to internal conflicts in Miraheze that were going on at the time. Now we're moving to MyWikis because of the issues Logoarto mentioned (WikiForge's Discord server being deleted doesn't help, either).

I get wanting to avoid Fandom Wiki (one of the reasons I got an adblocker since that's where the wikis for just about every other interest of mine are), but why are the alternatives so unstable? Geez Louise.

I generally do hope for the best for this place, but unrelated note, I'm trying to join the Discord server, just for it to not recognize me even when I tried the steps.

(Also, please fix the rank issue on me.)

I hope not. It probably wouldn't anyway since I think the URL for the Miraheze site is also avid.wiki.

Another wiki migration after less than a year and a half. I faced a bunch of problems on AVID during its time on WikiForge, including a slowdown in September last year and the website going down in June this year. I hope MyWikis doesn't suffer similar issues.

MyWikis should hopefully be more stable. It's been around since 2012.

What would happen to draft pages after the migration? Some draft pages include AVRO, CBeebies, Vizio, NBC Sports, AMC Theatres, Mediacorp Studios, etc.

Hi UWM, draft pages have been saved in our XML backup. The DataDump feature we use to back up our wiki's text contents has the option for us to back up text from all namespaces, which includes Drafts, so you should be able to resume work on any Drafts you have once the move wraps up. Hope this helps! :)
