Background

Funcom is a Norwegian developer founded in 1993. The main office is located in Oslo.

1st Logo (1993-1995)

Logo: The screen is shared withthe JVC logo. Under it, an iron viking helmet is placed on a dirt with a tennis ball sticking from the horn. The name "FUNCOM" appears below in red.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Appeared on two Sega CD games - Fatal Fury Special and Samurai Shodown.

2nd Logo (1994)

Logo: We see a golden viking helmet covered with red Santa cap and a furball on the horn. The word FUNCOM appears in ugly blue font casting shadow below.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Appeared on Daze Before Christmas.

3rd Logo (1994)

Logo: The ball-poked viking hat now appears as merely a plain image inside a blue and red rectangle. The blue word "FUNCOM" appears below.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Appeared on Dinosaur's Tale.

4th Logo (January 1, 1996-2005)

Logo: Differently designed logo with FUN sitting on top of COM in custom font.

FX/SFX: Depends on the variant.

Variants:

  • On Casper, the logo is metallic.
  • On No Escape, the logo appears through blurred mist. It also has copyright info below.
  • On NBA Hang Time, the logo has electronic fire animating through it.
  • On Dragonheart, the dragon flies and projects fire, where the purple logo appears after Acclaim.
  • There is a Funcom Dublin logo colored in the colors of Irish flag. It was spotted on Impact Racing.
  • Small blue logo is seen on Pocahontas for Genesis, plus Disney Animation logo appears under.

Music/Sounds: None. The fanfare is heard on Dragonheart.

Availability: Black and white logo seen on Championship Motocross. Other variants listed above.

5th Logo (November 18, 1999)

Logo: We see green electronic grid with occasional sparks and various words appearing, then the Funcom logo appears in green. Immediately the screen collapses via TV-effect.

FX/SFX: Effects on the screen.

Music/Sounds: Silent electronic noise followed with scribbling as the logo pops up, and the sound of TV powering off.

Availability: Was seen on The Longest Journey.

6th Logo (March 31, 2000)

Logo: The usual Funcom logo in yellow (and red center) stands still on a white floor. A punky-hair character walks in and sticks the trademark symbol at the construction. Then he leaves, but the symbol breaks off and rolls. The punk returns anxious, grabs the symbol and blasts it full force into the logo. He departs again, but before vanishing, takes a look behind to check the symbol, and makes a satisfied grunt.

FX/SFX: The character walking around and (R) sign rolling down.

Music/Sounds: The punk stomping around, making noises. He sticks the (R) with a creaking sound, then it rolls and is blasted back. As he departs, he checks the work and emits a satisfied "Hm!".

Availability: Was seen on Speed Punks.

7th Logo (April 17, 2006-)

Logo: We start moving along the blue circle, seen in extreme close-up as a curved line, it zooms out and collects itself from the particles. Then it comes to full view with "FUNCOM" inside, again in two lines and having two connections with the circle. Then the logo shines into black and white.

FX/SFX: The circle collects and zooms out.

Music/Sounds: Short humming turning into orchestral synth and the crystal sound on the shine.

Availability: Was seen on Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Age of Conan games.
