Background

This was a production company ran by Gary Goodman and Barry Rosen, launched in 1985. Most of their productions were made for The Family Channel or distributed by New World Television. The company closed in 1998.

1st Logo (March 3-May 8, 1985)

Logo: During the end credits, we see the words "GOODMAN" and "ROSEN" slide in. A slash appears between either name, along with "PRODUCTIONS" and "in association with" below.

FX/SFX: Just the text sliding in.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the movie.

Availability: Appeared on the television films Secret Weapons and Going for Gold.

Editor's Note: It seems this was primarily used on co-productions with ITC Entertainment.

2nd Logo (January 5, 1990-January 30, 1993)

Logo: On a black background we see the italicized text "GOODMAN ROSEN", with "PRODUCTIONS" below in a similar fashion. A red line separates either.

Variant:

  • At times the above text would appear smaller.
  • An in-credit version exists on the pilot for Zorro.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the program.

Availability: Was seen on Zorro (1990) which was last reran on Retro Television Network years ago, but also released on home media. It also appeared on the television movie The Stranger Within.

Editor's Note: The font style in this logo is identical to that of the closing credits of Zorro.

3rd Logo (January 2, 1994-December 1, 1996)

Nickname: "The Sliding Text"

Logo: On a scratched-up powder blue background, "GOODMAN", in a '30s Art Deco font, slides in from the right, while "ROSEN" in the same font, slides in from the left. They stop in the center with a slash between them. "PRODUCTIONS" fades in below.

FX/SFX: The sliding letters.

Music/Sounds: A three-note piano jingle, otherwise it's the closing theme.

Availability: It appeared on The Mighty Jungle and the TV movie Christmas Every Day. Also seen on later episodes of Zorro.

Editor's Note: For years, the logo's primary location was not known. Even with the knowledge of this appearing on an MTM program, people have failed to connect it to Christmas Every Day.

4th Logo (September 27, 1997-May 23, 1998)

Logo: Against a blue map of the world, the words "GOODMAN" and "ROSEN" slide in, as a slash fades in between either name along with "productions" in a font similar to that of the second logo.

FX/SFX: The sliding and fading.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: It was only seen on Police Academy: The Series, which is available for viewing on Tubi.

Editor's Note: Along with an indirect callback to a previous logo, the background looks strikingly similar to that of BBC Video's second logo, though this logo's rendition is better detailed.
