Background

Hartbreak Films is the independent production company of actress Melissa Joan Hart and her mother, Paula Hart. It was founded in 1993.

Logo (September 27, 1996-)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a red heart outline, which cracks like an egg, releasing a script "H" in a red box, which "artbreak Films, Inc." emerges from. At the same time, the left part of the heart outline falls down and sways back and forth like a rocking chair.

Variants:

  • On season 1 episodes of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch (when Finishing the Hat Productions still produced the show) and some episodes of Melissa & Joey, a still shot of the logo was used.
  • Later on, the logo is animated differently. The left piece of the heart drops instead of falling down, there is no drop shadow on the right piece of the heart, and the text appears via a wipe transition instead of entering from the "H". The heart also briefly zooms in and out at the beginning before settling in position. An extended version exists where the the heart constantly zooms in and out (a la heartbeat) before cracking, which can be found on the TV movie The Right Connections and a Russian airing of The Scream Team.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Just the sound of the heart cracking and a loud, squeaky creak.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, silence, the end theme of the show or generic ABC or NBC music starting in 1998 until 2000.
  • On the Sabrina S1 version, there is the end of the Finishing the Hat Productions logo music.
  • Sometimes, only the heart cracking sound is heard.

Availability: Can be seen on Sabrina, The Teenage Witch on DVD, VOD, Paramount+, Pluto TV and Sabrina: The Animated Series on Pluto TV. Also seen on Melissa & Joey and the TV movies The Right Connections, My Fake Fiance, Up, Up and Away, Two Came Back and The Scream Team.
