Background
Haworth Pictures was a significant production company founded by Sessue Hayakawa in 1918. [1]Hayakawa, a major silent film star of the early 20th century, formed the company as a means to produce films that moved beyond the stereotypical Asian roles Hollywood often assigned him. He was a pioneering figure, as Haworth was the first Asian-owned film company in Hollywood. [2]
