Background

Hollywood Television Service was the television distribution arm of Republic Pictures Corporation, established in 1951 to distribute all of Republic's library on TV and produce TV shows filmed in the same style as the Republic serials, which later sold all its library to NTA in 1959. It also produced several television shows alongside Studio City Television. Ironically, the company later returned to Republic Pictures' ownership in 1985 when NTA bought the company name and logo, forming Republic Pictures Television in 1986. Republic Pictures Corporation was later bought by Spelling Entertainment in 1994. Currently the movie library is owned by Paramount and all of the series are in the public domain.

1st Logo (1952-1956)

Nickname: "TV Globe"

Logo: On a sky background with clouds, we see the planet Earth with a television screen on the middle and a receiver tower almost like the one from the RKO logo behind it. The following text is inside the screen:

HOLLYWOOD
TELEVISION
SERVICE

INC.

The company name then zooms in and detaches from the screen, after which the logo fades to black.

FX/SFX: The name zooming in.

Music/Sounds: A 1950s fanfare that is actually a redux of the 1939 Republic logo's fanfare. In other cases, the opening theme of the movie, or the closing theme of the show.

Availability: Extremely rare, bordering on extinct. Was sighted on Amazon Prime's print of Gunsmoke Ranch before the Worldvision Enterprises logo.

2nd Logo (1956-1959)

Nickname: "TV Tube Filmstrip"

Logo: Same as the Studio City Television Productions logo, but the following text is inside the filmstrip cell:

HOLLYWOOD
TELEVISION
SERVICE

INC.

A byline fades in below the logo, after which the company name then zooms in and detaches from the screen.

Bylines:

  • 1955-1957: "A DIVISION OF REPUBLIC PICTURES CORPORATION".
  • 1957-1959: "A SUBSIDIARY OF REPUBLIC PICTURES CORPORATION".

FX/SFX: The name zooming in.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme of the movie or the closing theme of the show.

Availability: Extinct. Was seen on The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu and Frontier Doctor.
