Background
Hungry Bear Media is a British independent production company co-founded by Dan Baldwin and Juliet Denison-Gay in 2014. The company produces unscripted entertainment programs of different types, mainly comedy shows.
The company also operates two joint ventures - Hungry McBear with stand-up comedian Michael McIntyre, and Hungry Jay Media with British television personality Jay Blades MBE, which were founded in 2015 and 2020 respectively.
Logo (September 29, 2014-)
Visuals: Over a black background, there is a white bear with the letters "HUNGRY BEAR MEDIA" on the bottom, aligned to the left. The bear then looks down at the letters and uses its right paw to pick up the "Y" and take a bite out of it, before putting the letter down as it gulps down, revealing a bite mark on the "Y".
Variants:
- A still version exists.
- An extended version also exists, with additional sounds from the bear.
- On Hungry McBear productions, the text adds "Mc" in a script font next to "BEAR".
- On Hungry Jay Media productions, the bear wears Jay Blades' trademark framed glasses. The text is the same as the standard logo but with "JAY" replacing "MEDIA".
- Sometimes, this logo also shares the screen with other logos (including the 1997 BBC logo).
Technique: Flash animation produced by Jason Guest in Adobe After Effects.
Audio: Either the bear roaring or the ending theme to the show.
Audio Variant: On the original runs of the U.S. version of The Wheel, a generic NBC tune and announcer are heard.
Availability:
- First appeared on Dapper Laughs: On the Pull for ITV2 and has since appeared on many shows such as Play to the Whistle, Bradley and Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad, Take Off with Bradley & Holly, Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof, among other shows.
- The still version appears on the 2024 BBC revival of Gladiators.
- The "McBear" variant appears on various Michael McIntyre productions, namely Michael McIntyre's Big Show and Michael McIntyre's The Wheel, as well as the US adaption of the latter.
- It also appears on his Netflix stand-up show Michael McIntyre: Showman.
- The "Jay Media" variant appears on Jay Blades: Learning to Read at 51, Jay Blades: There’s No Place Like Home, and David & Jay's Touring Toolshed.
