Background

This was the production arm of ITV Wales, formerly TWW Productions and HTV Productions.

TWW Productions

(1958-1968)

Logo: A still version of the TWW logo but with "PRODUCTION" added underneath.

Variant: A superimposed variant exists.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Extinct; was so far only seen on The Peacekeepers. As of now, only the variant has been found.

HTV Productions

1st Logo (1970-April 3, 1988)

Logo: A still version of the 1970 HTV logo, typically accompanied with in-credit text.

Variants:

  • An in-credit variant with the text "Produced by" above the logo and "In association with PRIMETIME TELEVISION LTD." and the copyright notice below it. This was seen on the 1986 Disney Channel mini-series Return to Treasure Island.
  • Another in-credit variant has the logo and the word "LIMITED" next to it to make it read "HTV LIMITED" under the Hemisphere Productions Limited and the Sidney Glazier Productions text, superimposed in the background of a man praying. This can be seen in the 1973 TV movie Catholics.
  • Another in-credit version has the "Produced by" text on the side of the logo with "A NEWLAND-RAYNOR PRODUCTION" above it and "in association with The Callender Company" below it. This was seen in the 1984 TV movie Arch of Triumph.
  • On Robin of Sherwood, the logo is on the same row as "AN" and "PRODUCTION" within the end credits.
  • On Deadly Strangers and The Woman He Loved, "in association with" appears above the logo. The former also has the logo within the end credits.
  • On Jenny's War, the IAW notice appears below the logo.
  • At the end of The Great Little Trains of Wales, the words "colour production" appear below the words "CYMRU WALES". This variant may have been seen on other programs too.
  • There does exist a version of the generic version, in which the animation is more cohesive and the logo remains thick.
  • On Y Gwr O Gwr Yr Aran, the Cymru Wales variant has a copyright stamp added.
  • On A Breed of Men, "COLOUR PRODUCTION" appears underneath the logo.
  • On an HTV West airing to An Officer and a Gentleman, only "Presentation" is underneath the logo.
  • On Y Byd ar Bedwar, the logo is smaller and against a black background.
  • On Clive’s Walks, the logo is paired with the Gunnell Goulding Films logo. The latter is on the right with "production for" leading into HTV West's. Additionally, a copyright stamp with a big copyright symbol is seen underneath Gunnell Goulding's logo.
  • A rare variant had the HTV logo beside the text "LIMITED", in which "and" can be seen below. There's another one with "Ltd" in a much plainer font located beside it.
    • On Three Wishes for Jamie, "LIMITED" is simplified to just "LTD" and "and" was removed.
    • An in-credit version of this variant also exists.
  • An extremely rare co-production variant exists where the logo is paired with six other ITV franchise logos on a blue background. HTV's logo appears on the center right.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Rare, can be seen on some VHS and DVD releases of HTV programming, both in the UK and USA. It can be seen on the VHS of Robin Hood... the Legend. Its last known appearance was on The Woman He Loved.

2nd Logo (September 1987-December 31, 1992)

Logo: On a royal blue gradient background, the HTV logo with basic shading is seen above the text "AN HTV CYMRU WALES PRODUCTION"

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the 1989 ITV logo can be seen underneath.
  • A more metallic version of the logo exists on a different gradient backgrounds either linear or radial.
  • On Garden Club, the logo is paired with the 1982 Channel 4 logo.
  • Another variant has "LIMITED" appear below the "V" and the text "AND" below the logo.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Very rare.

  • It was seen on British prints of Northstar, The Snow Spider, The Diamond Trap, among others.
  • The "West" variant appeared on Stars in a Dark Knight and The Art of Pleasing People, among others.

3rd Logo (January 1, 1993-February 1995)

Logo: This is a still version of the 1993 logo but with "Production" underneath the HTV logo.

Variants:

  • "Production" may be reworded to "Presentation" or "Programme", both in the ITC Newtext font.
  • Like before, the 1989 ITV logo may be seen underneath.
  • On Cymru Newydd, this logo shares the screen with the 1982 Channel 4, 1988 BBC Cymru and the 1987 S4C logos.
  • An in-credit variant exists, simply consisting of the print version of the 1993 logo in a blue gradient.
    • This variant may also be superimposed and perhaps in a different shade of blue.
  • On Learn Sign Language, the logo is cropped where only the logo is seen.

Availability:

  • Can be seen on HTV programmes from 1993 to 1995 such as Budgie the Little Helicopter, Rainbow Toy Shop, Rubbish, King of the Jumble, and The Pig Attraction, among others.

4th Logo (February 1995-March 7, 1999)

Logo: Like before, it is a still version of its respective ident, only with "Programme" added underneath the logo.

Variants:

  • Like before, the bottom text may red "Presentation" or "Production" or "Production for ITV" under it (and with the 1989 ITV logo until October 4, 1998).
  • Another version has "An" above the logo and "Programme for ITV" under it (and with the 1989 ITV logo logo until October 4, 1998).
  • Sometimes, the HTV logo is in a vibrant shade of gold, sticking itself out of the background.
  • On some programmes, the logo is shrunken and appears as an in-credit notice.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Very rare.

  • Survives on earlier VHS prints of the Kipper episode "The Visitor" as well as the second and third seasons of Wycliffe, among others.

5th Logo (March 8-November 7, 1999)

Logo: It is the same case as before: a still version of its respective ident with "Programme" added underneath.

Variant: Like before, a smaller variant exists.

Availability:

  • Seen on series 3 of Barry Welsh is Coming.
  • Said series' VHS release, Barry Welsh: The Second Coming, has this logo intact.

6th Logo (November 8, 1999-July 1, 2001)

Logo: On a static dark blue background with floating pieces and gold light on the top half, the 1999 HTV logo is displayed above "Production".

Variant: Once again, one variant has the logo shrunken and paired with other logos.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Extremely rare. It was seen on some episodes of Barry Welsh is Coming, specifically the DVD Barry Welsh Is Coming The Cream. Series 4 has the Carlton Productions logo instead.

ITV Wales Productions

1st Logo (March 1, 2004-2006)

Logo: The same background used by other ITV regional production logos at the time is used, consisting of blue outlined squares against a smoky blue background. The 2004 ITV Wales logo is seen on the center of the screen.

Variant: On Barry Welsh is Coming, the logo is paired with the Absolutely Productions logo. Underneath it is the notice "An Absolutely production in association with ITV" and the show's website link.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Extremely rare. It was seen on a few Barry Welsh is Coming specials in this time frame.

2nd Logo (May 3-December 19, 2007)

Logo: On a dark blue background consisting of several horizontal bars, the 2006 ITV Wales logo in gold is diplayed with the text "a production for" on top.

Availability: Extremely rare, seen on the last few Barry Welsh Is Coming specials: "Barry Welsh Has An Election", "Hugh Pugh Kicks Off", and "Hugh Pugh's Christmas Cracker".
