Background

Ideal World Productions was a television production company initially founded as Gallus Besom before renaming to its current name. In 2004, the company merged with Wark Clements to form IWC Media.

1st Logo (1994-1998)

Visuals: Against a wall with no lighting, a steel plate with a long thread through it flips over a few times with brief electricity sparking, eventually scrolling downward. Suddenly, a light bulb emerges and flashes a purple light while the plate simultaneously flashes a white glow, revealing the text "idealworld". The light bulb quickly stops flashing and remains visible.

Variants:

  • On Wild Harvest with Nick Nairn, this logo shares the screen with the 1988 BBC Scotland logo, and the copyright notice reading "© BBC (in its 1988 print logo) MCMXCVII" appears below.
  • On Coltrane's Places and Automobiles, the text reads "AN IDEAL WORLD PRODUCTION FOR CHANNEL FOUR TELEVISION" with the copyright notice reading "© CHANNEL FOUR TELEVISION CORPORATION (year)" which appears below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appeared on Wild Harvest with Nick Nairn and Coltrane's Places and Automobiles.

2nd Logo (1998-2002)

Visuals: On a dark purple background, an orange planet is shown with a lens flare flying across the screen, eventually flashing and forming the text

WORLD

PRODUCTION

Simultaneously, the planet disappears once the lens flare starts forming the logo. As for the logo itself, it has a white glow fill on the top right with the "A"'s crossbar consisting of a long curve, overlapping with the "E"'s middle bar. Additional in-credit information such as a co-producer's name (e.g. Channel 4) and a copyright notice may be shown underneath.

Variants:

  • On programmes produced for Channel 4, this logo shares the screen with the 1999 Channel 4 "Square" logo.
  • Also on early Channel 4 split-screen variants, "IDEAL" was referred to as "Id" and the curve also overlaps with said text.
  • On Driven, the word is shortened to "IW" with a grey bar below with the word "PRODUCTIONS" on it and it also appears next to the Darlow Smithson Productions logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Appears on early episodes of Location, Location, Location, Thumb Bandits, Deals on Wheels, and Chatham Jack: A Boxing Legend.

3rd Logo (2002-2004)

Visuals: On a white background, the 3D text "idea PRODUCTIONS" is shown next to an exclamation mark containing the vertically stacked word "WORLD" and a dot coloured orange.

Variants:

  • On programmes produced for Channel 4, this logo shares the screen with the 1999 Channel 4 "Square" logo.
  • On The Planman, the logo is in greyscale and inside a white box.

Technique: A still CGI graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: It can be seen on Hunting The Washington Sniper and The Planman.
