Background

Ideal World Productions was a television production company initially founded as Gallus Besom before renaming to its current name. In 2004, the company merged with Wark Clements to form IWC Media.

Gallus Besom

(September 22, 1988-1994)

Logo: A plaid pattern fades in on the top section of the screen. Soon after, the cursive text "Gallus Besom" writes in.

Variant: On Walkie Talkie, a silhouette of the backdrop of London and many other famous landmarks of Britain scrolls upwards. Following this, the plaid background fades in and the logo is paired with the Skyline Film & Television Productions logo

FX/SFX: The text writing in.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Extinct; its only known appearance was on Walkie Talkie, which is long gone from television.

Ideal World Productions

1st Logo (1994-1998)

Logo: Against a wall with no lighting, a steel plate with a long thread through it flips over a few times with brief electricity sparking, eventually scrolling downward. Suddenly, a light bulb emerges and flashes a purple light while the plate simultaneously flashes a white glow, revealing the text "idealworld". The light bulb quickly stops flashing and remains visible.

FX/SFX: CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Only known to have appeared on Wild Harvest with Nick Nairn.

2nd Logo (1998-2002)

Logo: On a dark purple background, an orange planet is shown with a lens flare flying across the screen, eventually flashing and forming the text

PRODUCTION

Simultaneously, the planet disappears once the lens flare starts forming the logo. As for the logo itself, it has a white glow fill on the top right with the "A"'s crossbar consisting of a long curve, overlapping with the "E"'s middle bar. Additional in-credit information such as a co-producer's name (e.g. Channel 4) and a copyright notice may be shown underneath.

Variants:

  • On early Channel 4 split-screen variants, "IDEAL" was referred to as "Id" and the curve overlaps with said text.
  • On Driven the word is shortened to "IW with a grey bar below with the word "PRODUCTIONS" on it and it appears next to the Darlow Smithson Productions logo.

FX/SFX: The lens flare forming the logo.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Rare; appears on early episodes of Location, Location, Location, Thumb Bandits, Deals on Wheels, and Chatham Jack: A Boxing Legend.

3rd Logo (2002-2004)

Logo: On a white background, the 3D text "idea PRODUCTIONS" is shown next to an exclamation mark containing the vertically stacked word "WORLD" and a dot colored orange.

Variant: On The Planman, the logo is in grayscale and inside a white box.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Rare; it can be seen on Hunting The Washington Sniper and The Planman.
