Background

InterMedia Films was founded in London, England as Intermedia Film Equities in 1991. The company would begin operations in Los Angeles, California in 1997. In 2001, InterMedia acquired Largo Entertainment's film library after it went out of business two years ago and was now a successor to this company. After the box office failures of Basic Instinct 2 and RV, InterMedia went dormant in 2006. The following year, Stuart Ford founded IM Global as a successor to the company in April. As of 2012, InterMedia's library was owned by Ron Tutor and David Bergstein.

1st Logo (September 5, 1998-March 28, 2003)

Logo: On a moving blue light, many particles move towards the camera, turn around and form the word "Intermedia" in a computerized font. The blue lightspot freezes behind the name, then everything fades out.

Technique: The moving light and particles, nothing imaginative.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Appears on films from the era, such as Hilary and Jackie, Iris, Playing by Heart, The Wedding Planner, and K-PAX, among others.

2nd Logo (July 2, 2003-April 28, 2006)

Logo: We first see a huge rogue wave shooting toward us. When the rogue has hit us, huge "INT" letters rise from the water. As the camera scrolls, the letters of "INTERMEDIA" appear, and the word is strengthened with an electric beam. The background then changes to black and a thick, blue line appears behind the text.

Variants:

  • On the Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines game for the Game Boy Advance, the InterMedia print logo is seen in a dark blue box on a white background.
  • An in-credit logo is seen at the end of Basic Instinct 2 and RV. The latter has the logo inverted.

Technique: Excellent CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: The sounds of the rouge wave and water and finally a phased synth boom.

Availability: Appears on films such as Alexander, Mindhunters, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (the first film to use this logo). This replaces the Largo Entertainment logo on said company's films released in double feature DVDs by Warner Home Video, due to Intermedia owning worldwide rights to Largo's library with Warner Bros. handling distribution. The print version appears on the Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines video game for the Game Boy Advance.
