Island World Productions was formed on March 20, 1990 by Tony Garnett as the television division of Island World Communications, a film conglomerate owned by Chris Blackwell and John Heyman. In 1993, Island World closed its London office and moved strictly to the American market, but the television division was allowed to continue on its own. It was then renamed to World Productions in 1994, while the film division was renamed to World Films, Inc. a year prior, serving as a sublabel of Island Pictures.
Visuals: On an detailed star map displaying several constellations, a blue light flashes in and moves a bit to the left, revealing a rotating grey globe of Earth with metallic chrome continents, zooming in until it takes up the entire screen. After a brief second, the globe zooms out to reveal the merged letters "iw" in black with a white outline, and a blue-black gradient background is revealed. A pattern of the star map also zooms out onto the "iw" at a delayed fashion. Then, the text "AN" with a red line going through it, "ISLAND WORLD", and "PRODUCTION" with a blue bar through it, fades in below.
Variants:
Technique: 2D computer animation, with possible model work for the globe.
Audio: A proud orchestral fanfare, based on a rendition of Gustav Holst's "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity". The short version uses the ending theme of the programme.
