Background

Nankai Broadcasting applied for a television license on November 23, 1955 and started its television broadcasts on December 1, 1958 as Japan's 13th commercial broadcaster, under the callsign JOAF-TV and began rebroadcasting Nippon Television before joining their NNN/NNS networks during 1966 and 1972 respectively.. The station began digital broadcasts on November 14, 2006 under the callsign JOAF-DTV. The station serves the Ehime Prefecture of the Shikoku island, based in Matsuyama. From 1961 to 2011, the station operated a relay station, JOAL-TV in Niihama, this was shuttered in 2011 following the end of analog television in Japan.

Visuals:

• Startup: The logo starts with a drawing of several buildings at night, with the signs of the buidings illuminating. The sky then starts to become cloudy with the colors of the buildings becoming more noticeable as the lights flash on and off. Suddenly, a yellow gust of wind moves over the buildings before moving back. It later cuts to another group of buildings with a light yellow sky. One of the gray buildings has the red text "RNB" over it, possibly representing the station's headquarters, which is next to another building with a satellite dish. As the sun rises, the colors of the buildings change, with the RNB building becoming yellow, the building next to it becoming gray, the satellite dish becoming yellow, and the sky fading to dark blue. Ovals with a white outline then emit out of the dish. Finally, the 1964 RNB wordmark, consisting of the white characters "南海放送" with a black outline appear one-by-one while the ovals continue to emit.
• Closedown: On a black background, there is a shot of a white line as it draws to form a piano. As the piano fully forms, it gains a light appearance. After the piano is drawn, the words "お休みなさい" located on the top and the 1964 RNB wordmark appear in white before the animation fades to blue where only the wordmark can be seen before fading to black.

Audio:

• Startup: The first few bars of the Nankai Broadcasting Song (南海放送の歌), which was composed by Masao Yoneyama and written by Sō Nishizawa.
• Closedown: A dreamy xylophone theme.

Audio Variant: Sometime during 1990, the vocal version (with the vocals being done by BONNY JACKS) of the startup music was used. The full version can be found here.

Visuals:

• Startup (used until 2013): There is a shot of a pond in Ehime before transitioning to shots of multiple flowers. After that, the camera fades to a shot of some mallards flying before transitioning into another shot of the mallards. After that, the 1964 RNB wordmark fades in via sparkles as the video freezes.

• Closedown: There is a shot of a beach in Ehime during sunset as the camera moves to the left before fading into a shot of some waves and some hills with a boat passing by it before transitioning into three boats traversing through the sea during nighttime. After that, the camera fades into a starry black background where the 1964 RNB wordmark fades in via sparkles before fading to black.

Technique: A mix of CGI and live-action footage.

Visuals: There is a shot of a sunrise before the camera fades into shots of some birds. After that, the camera transitions to some cherry blossoms, flowers and then into RNB's headquarters in Matsuyama. After that, the 2006 RNB wordmark, consisting of the text "南海放送" in a futuristic blue font appears while RNB's mascot U~itto appears on the left.
