Background

Jadran Film is a Yugoslav (now Croatian) film studio founded in 1946 based in Zagreb, Croatia. It was one of the biggest and most notable production houses in all of central Europe, most being internationally and 120 filmed around the studio. It was also one of the 2 main film studios in Yugoslav cinema, the other being Avala Film.

During the breakup of Yugoslavia, the company experienced a sharp downturn and most of its property was either sold or fell into disrepair. The company is still active, but the company's output has dwindled into a handful of films every year.

1st Logo (December 22, 1950-July 15, 1968)

Visuals: There is a rhombus with "Jadran" and a cursive "film" at the bottom. The cursive "F" is going through the letter "A" in the word "JADRAN". Below the rhombus is the cursive word "prikazuje".

Variants:

  • An early variant exists on Plavi 9 where the rhombus is absent and "PRIKAZJUE" is in a paint-like font.
  • In some instances, "PRIKAZJUE" may also be written in different styles.
    • U oluji, Koncert, Nasi se putovi razilaze and H-8 have "prikazuje" in a handwritten format, although the styles are different.
    • Some films including Samo Ijudi, Sreća Dolazi u 9 and Pogled u zjenicu sunca have "prikazuje" in a thin font.
  • Starting in 1960, "JADRAN" has now become thicker.
  • Some instances contain the logo with "Proizvodnja" above the rhombus.
    • Deveti krug and Da li je umro dobar čovek has "Proizvodnja" in a handrwritten style.
    • Sjenka slave is the only film that has "proizvodnja" in a thin font.
  • Most of its films don't contain any text notice around the rhombus.
  • the "f" in "film" may also differ handwriting-wise.
    • For instance, Opsada and Breza has the "f" curving between "A" and "D" in "JADRAN".
    • Svoga tela gospodar has the "f" curving behind the "D".
  • In Opsada, "PRODUKCIJA" can be seen above with a text notice saying:

U SARDINJI SA
Croatia filmow

  • A colorized variant exists on Imam dvije mame i dva tate where the background is blue.
  • On Gravitacija ili fantastična mladost činovnika Horvata, the logo is placed right next to the title of the film, with few text notices on the top and bottom.
  • On Svoga tela gospodar, the borders are noticeably thicker.
  • Dyaliscope and Totalvision versions also exist.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the film.

Availability:

  • The early variant was only spotted on Plavi 9.
  • The standard variant can be seen on most Croatian films from the Early 1950's up to the late 1960's, where it made its debut appearance on U oluji, and made its final appearance on Gravitacija ili fantastična mladost činovnika Horvata.
  • The Dyaliscope and Totalvision variants are rare and both of which are seen on Signali nad gradom and Martin u oblacima, respectively.

2nd Logo (November 13, 1970-July 11, 1984)

Visuals: Against a yellow seashore, there is a dark lighthouse, which is constantly flashing on the sides, and towards the viewer. After the 4th flash, the words 'FILM U PROIZVODNJI PODUZECA" appears above the lighthouse. Which is then followed by:

JADRAN FILM
Z A G R E B

appearing after the 6th circle flash. And lastly, after the 8th circle flash, a white ring with the italic letters "JF" appears on top of the lighthouse. The lighthouse stops flashing after that.

The 2 letters then transform into a more natural version of said letters, which causes "ADRAN" and "ILM" in a futuristic font to wipe in from the 2 letters left to right letter-by-letter. Following this, "Distribucija" appears below the company name via blur effect, and a spotlight shines the circle once the formation is complete.

Variants:

  • Similar to the last logo, in-credit variants also exist where the logo is placed on the opening scene of the movie or a solid background.
    • On Obećana zemlja, the logo is white and the font is thinner. "prikazuje" can also be seen below.
    • On Krvopijci, the logo is dark red and placed against a white background.
    • On Sedma kronika, the logo is placed on a black background.
    • On Kad mrtvi zapjevaju, the logo is paired with the HRT logo.

Technique: Early CGI.
