Background

Japan Video Distribution (JVD) is a Japanese home entertainment distribution and production company. It is one of Japan's largest horror and cult film distributors, having released titles such as Cannibal Holocaust and The Evil Dead.

1st Logo (1990s)

Visuals: On a black background, a large rotating star of changing colors is shown at the center. A golden outlined "JVD" with the V extended spins in with small trails towards the screen, with the text "CO LTD" inside the bottom of the "D". The logo briefly shines upwards, and the white text "JAPAN VIDEO DISTRIBUTION" trails in from the right next to the bottom of the logo.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A soft ambient synth theme with bells.

Availability: Can be seen on early home video releases by the company, including Red Room and Muzan-e.

2nd Logo (2000-2008)

Visuals: On a bright blue/black background obscured by moving clouds, the white pieces of the "JVD" logo from before zoom out and join. Afterwards, the background changes to a purple flash and turns back to the moving clouds with a purple tint on them. Light beams in blue, purple and red shoot to the right and form the words of "Japan Video Distribution" next to the logo. Rays appear coming out from the logo moving horizontally, and the background changes to black as a white glow is shown behind the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A long synth pad note.

Availability: Can be seen on DVDs of cult films distributed by the company, such as the remastered version of Zatoichi.
