Jim Henson Home Entertainment (formerly Jim Henson Video) was the home video banner of The Jim Henson Company, established in 1991 after the company made a video distribution deal with the Walt Disney Company. Visuals: On a blue background, there is the green "lime" signature writing itself. Below it, the word "red" in spaced out letters, with a red line above it, fades in underneath.

Variants:
* The original North American variant has <u>"VIDEO" spaced out more, and the red line reaches to the "J"</u>.
* There is a still variant of this logo that features the white words <u>"DISTRIBUTED BY BUENA VISTA HOME VIDEO"</u> appearing at the bottom of the screen. This can be found on early 1993 tapes usually after the "Available on Jim Henson Records" bumper. In the UK, this variant was spotted on the Muppet Babies tapes as they were taken from the United States prints of the VHS tapes.
**On several demo tapes, the byline is <u>scaled larger than usual</u>, thus having the logo positioned higher than usual like the British bumpers.
* On <u>the coming soon version of the Muppet Sing-Alongs: Billy Bunny's Animal Songs trailer</u>, the white text "Coming This Summer" appears below the still logo.
* A variant has been discovered where <u>the Jim Henson signature is written in red</u>.
* A variant also exists where <u>the logo animates like normal but off-center, and "NOW AVAILABLE" fades in below</u>.
* A <u>2nd Buena Vista Home Video byline variant</u> is found where the red Jim Henson Video signature variant is used over the standard variant.
* An variant exists where "VIDEO" is green, and it fades in a bit slower than usual.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A slowed-down variant of the 1991 Walt Disney Home Video theme.

Audio Variants:

* On <u>VHS releases of Muppet Babies</u>, the end theme to the show itself is used.
*The <u>Red Jim Henson signature variant</u> uses a low pitched variant of the early 1989? Walt Disney Home Video theme.
*The <u>Green "VIDEO" variant</u> uses the early 1989? Walt Disney Home Video theme, only this time it's not low pitched.

Availability:
* It appears at the end of early Jim Henson Video VHS and Laserdisc releases by Buena Vista Home Video from 1992 to 1996. Apart from the promos featured, this doesn't appear at the beginning, as the Jim Henson Productions logo is used instead.
* The US VHS releases of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island also don't have it.
* It was also seen on the promotional video for Jim Henson Video on the demo VHS tape of The Muppet Movie.

Background

Jim Henson Home Entertainment was formed in 1997 when The Jim Henson Company signed a home video distribution deal with Columbia TriStar Home Video. This deal replaced the prior deal the company had with Buena Vista Home Entertainment to operate the Jim Henson Video deal.

The label moved to HIT Entertainment following the Henson family's repurchase of the Jim Henson Company from EM.TV & Merchandising and their five-year deal with HIT. Around 2009 or 2010, the Jim Henson Home Entertainment name was quietly retired, with the company now simply crediting itself on later home video releases.

1st Logo (1998-2003)

Visuals: It's the ending part of the 1991 Jim Henson Productions logo starting with the "dot the I" part, but "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" replaces "PRODUCTIONS".

Variant: Sometimes, a copyright notice appears under the logo.

Trailer Variant: On some trailers like The Muppets Take Manhattan, the logo zooms in without the line below the signature and in white.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None, or the end theme to the show.

Availability: Seen on Columbia TriStar-distributed releases of Jim Henson material.

  • It appears on the following Bear in the Big Blue House VHS releases: Volumes 5-8, Potty Time with Bear, Safe and Sound, Sharing with Friends, Early to Bed, Early to Rise, Storytelling With Bear (with a Muppet Show copyright for some reason), Visiting the Doctor with Bear, Halloween & Thanksgiving and A Berry Bear Christmas. The VHS volumes of the series not listed here don't have any of these logos.
    • It also appears on these DVD releases: Potty Time with Bear, Party Time with Bear, Shapes, Sounds & Colors with Bear, and Sleepy Time with Bear and Friends, alongside a promotional DVD bundled with General Mills cereals (once again, has the Muppet Show copyright variant)
  • It also appears on Volumes 3-6 of The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss on VHS, alongside the Columbia TriStar VHS reissues of The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper (Releases under the Jim Henson Video line, except for the UK had the full off-center "Productions" variant, used both on VHS and Laserdisc; the DVD releases of both movies use the 2nd Jim Henson Pictures logo).
  • It also appears at the end of the first two volumes of the UK-exclusive VHS release The Very Best of the Muppet Show: Volume 1 and The Very Best of the Muppet Show: Volume 2 (and its DVD releases), and also on the Best of the Muppet Show VHS releases from Time-Life Video, plastering older logos.
  • Other than those mentioned releases, international releases of Jim Henson shows by CTHE do not use this logo.
  • The VHS reissue of Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas uses the Jim Henson Television logo in place of this one for some reason.
  • It can also be seen on the first trailer for Kermit's Swamp Years.

2nd Logo (August 18, 2002-April 16, 2004)

Visuals: At sunset, a river at a nearby forest is briefly shown, and then the camera pans up to a space background (a la the 1998 Lyrick Studios logo), where a mint-colored spark draws the words "Jim Henson" in the signature font, while a comet creates the dot above "i". Then, "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" appears, glowing below the line.

Trivia: The forest scene might have been shot at Naples, Florida for Kermit's Swamp Years. In fact, the movie itself uses the same forest as well.

Variants:

  • This logo comes in both a fullscreen version and a widescreen version.
    • A darkened version of the widescreen version exists.
      • On Muppets Party Cruise, the dark widescreen version is squished to a 4:3 ratio and it fades in at the point where the spark writes the words, leaving the first part of the music to play on a black screen.
  • On the Frances home video compilation Bedtime for Frances, the view of the swamp is longer before panning up to the sky and the spark draws the signature in red instead of green. The dot color created above the "i" by the comet is also changed to red, and "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" is in cyan.
    • A version of it, shown at the end, has the white balance for the logo re-adjusted.
  • An in-credit version in white also appears on Kermit's Swamp Years and Bear in the Big Blue House LIVE!
  • A stretched variant exists where its 4:3 aspect ratio is 16:4.

Technique: Live action combined with computer animation.

Audio: A sped-up version of the Jim Henson Interactive logo music, with no sound effects at the end.

Audio Variant: On Muppets Party Cruise, the tail end of the DVD variation of the 9th Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment logo theme plays at the beginning, alongside a split-second of some cricket sounds at the end (the opening to Kermit's Swamp Years), which means this was ripped directly from Kermit's Swamp Years.

Availability: Seen on the company's releases from this period.

  • It appears on the direct-to-video features Kermit's Swamp Years on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray (though it only got Blu-ray releases in Germany and China), and Bear in the Big Blue House LIVE! on VHS and DVD. These are the only Jim Henson releases from Columbia TriStar with this logo, with others generally using the previous logo.
  • It also appears on the video game Muppets Party Cruise for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube, in place of the Jim Henson Interactive logo.
  • The red text variant appears on the Frances home video compilation Bedtime for Frances, released on March 31, 2009.
    • On the DVD packaged in the DVD & Book collection of the title, the logo can only be seen on the main movie title of the disc when either "Auto Play" is selected in HIT Entertainment's DVD AutoPlay menu or the "Play All" button in the main menu of the disc title has been selected.
  • It doesn't appear on any other HIT Entertainment releases, which either use the next logo (Jim Henson Family Classics for Fraggle Rock releases) or no Henson logo at all.

3rd Logo (2004-2006)

Visuals: On a white background, there is the logo with copyright text.

Variant: On some releases, the logo flips, and "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" appears letter-by-letter.

Technique: A digital graphic. 2D animation for the variant.

Audio: None or the closing theme of Fraggle Rock.

Availability: Appears at the end of HIT Entertainment-distributed releases of Fraggle Rock (excluding "The Complete Third Season") and Animal Jam, and at the beginning of the 2005 HIT DVD of Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas: Collector's Edition.
