Background
Jim Henson Home Entertainment (formerly Jim Henson Video) was the home video banner of The Jim Henson Company, established in 1991 after the company made a video distribution deal with Disney. Their titles were initially distributed by Buena Vista Home Video. After forming Jim Henson Pictures, the company began releasing their videos through Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, before moving to HiT Entertainment following the Henson family's repurchase of the Jim Henson Company from EM.TV & Merchandising. Around 2009 or 2010, the Jim Henson Home Entertainment name was quietly retired, due to the company now simply crediting itself on later home video releases.

*The original North American variant had "VIDEO" spaced out, and the red line reaches to the "J".
*There is a still variant of this logo that features the white words "DISTRIBUTED BY BUENA VISTA HOME VIDEO" appearing at the bottom of the screen. This can be found on early 1993 tapes that have the off-center variant of the 1989 Jim Henson Productions logo before the presentation of a video and after the "Available on Jim Henson Records" bumper. In the UK, this variant was spotted on the Muppet Babies tapes as they were taken from the United States copies of these videos.
*There is a still variant of this logo that features the white words "DISTRIBUTED BY BUENA VISTA HOME VIDEO" appearing at the bottom of the screen. This can be found on early 1993 tapes usually after the "Available on Jim Henson Records" bumper. On several demo tapes, the byline is scaled larger than usual, thus having the logo positioned higher than usual like the UK bumpers. In the UK, this variant was spotted on the Muppet Babies tapes as they were taken from the United States prints of the VHS tapes.
*One variant has the big, orange words “NOW AVAILABLE” above the logo.
*On the coming soon version of the Muppet Sing-Alongs: Billy Bunny's Animal Songs trailer, the white text "Coming This Summer" appears below the still logo.

Trivia: If the label rebooted years after the acquisition of The Muppets in 2004 by Disney, even after it officially ended in 1996, the "Jim Henson" text on this logo would appear red instead of lime like the 3rd logo seen on the Frances compilation "Bedtime for Frances" for recent Henson projects like Sid the Science Kid as well as Fraggle Rock which was previously released under the label through the distribution deal with the aforementioned company.

1st Logo (1992-1996)

Logo: On a blue background, we see the green "Jim Henson" signature writing itself. Below it, the word "VIDEO" in spaced out letters, with a red line above it, fades in underneath.

Variants:

 • The original North American variant had "VIDEO" spaced out, and the red line reaches to the "J".
 • There is a still variant of this logo that features the white words "DISTRIBUTED BY BUENA VISTA HOME VIDEO" appearing at the bottom of the screen.
 • On the coming soon version of the Muppet Sing-Alongs: Billy Bunny's Animal Songs trailer, the white text "Coming This Summer" appears below the still logo.

FX/SFX: The Jim Henson logo "writing" and "VIDEO" signing in.

Music/Sounds: A slowed-down variant of the 1991 Walt Disney Home Video theme.

Music/Sounds Variant: On VHS releases of Muppet Babies, the same custom music used for the Henson Associates logo is used.

Availability:

 • It appears at the end of early Jim Henson Video VHS and Laserdisc releases by Buena Vista Home Video from 1992 to 1996. Apart from the promos featured, this doesn't appear at the beginning, as the Jim Henson Productions logo is used instead.
 • The original VHS of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island don't have it, as they were released as Walt Disney Home Video products.
 • It was also seen on the promotional video for Jim Henson Video on the demo VHS tape of The Muppet Movie.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (1998-2003)

Logo: It's the ending part of the 1991 Jim Henson Productions logo starting with the "dot the I" part, but "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" replaces "PRODUCTIONS".

Variant: Sometimes, the copyright notice appears under the logo.

Trailer Variant: On some trailers like The Muppets Take Manhattan, the logo zooms in without the line below the signature and in white.

FX/SFX: Same as the 7th Jim Henson logo.

Music/Sounds: None, or the end theme to the show.

Availability: Seen on Columbia TriStar-distributed releases of Jim Henson material.

 • Such examples include Bear in the Big Blue House, the Columbia TriStar reprints of Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper, The Muppet Show and The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, typically plastering other Jim Henson logos. These re-releases from the Jim Henson Video line by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, previously used the original full 7th logo.
 • DVD releases of The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper use the 2nd Jim Henson Pictures logo instead.
 • It can also be seen on the first trailer for Kermit's Swamp Years.

Editor's Note: None.

3rd Logo (2002-March 31, 2009)

Logo: We see a river scene in a forest at sunset for a second, and then pan up to a space background (a la the 1998 Lyrick Studios logo), where a mint colored spark draws the words "Jim Henson" in the signature font, while a comet creates the dot above "i". Then, "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" appears flashing in on below the line.

Trivia: The forest scene might have been shot at Naples, Florida for Kermit's Swamp Years. In fact, the movie itself uses the same forest as well.

Variants:

 • On the demo VHS of Kermit's Swamp Years, the logo starts with the complete version of the music by itself after the blue FBI Warning screen that popped up the 2nd time after the 9th Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment logo.
 • There is a version of this logo where the view of the swamp is longer before panning up to the sky and the spark draws the signature in red instead of green. The dot color created above the "i" by the comet is also changed to red. Another version of it, shown before at the end, has the white balance for the logo re-adjusted.
 • An in-credit version in white also appears on Kermit's Swamp Years and Bear in the Big Blue House LIVE!

FX/SFX: The words drawing, and the comet. The logo is somewhat reminiscent of the 1998 Lyrick Studios logo.

Music/Sounds: A sped-up version of the Jim Henson Interactive logo music, with no sound effects at the end.

Music/Sound Variant: The logo's music is high pitched on the UK VHS of Kermit's Swamp Years.

Availability: Seen on later Columbia TriStar and HIT Entertainment releases of Jim Henson material.

 • It appears on Kermit's Swamp Years on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray (which was only released in Germany and China).
 • Also appears on later pre-Disney VHS and DVD releases of Bear in the Big Blue House releases as well as Bear in the Big Blue House LIVE!.
 • The red text variant can be seen on the Frances home video compilation Bedtime for Frances, released on March 31, 2009. On the DVD packaged in the DVD & Book collection of the title, the logo can only be seen on the main movie title of the disc when either "Auto Play" is selected in HiT Entertainment's DVD AutoPlay menu or the "Play All" button in the main menu of the disc title has been selected.

Editor's Note: None.

4th Logo (2004-2005)

Logo: On a white background, we see the logo with copyright text.

Variants:

 • A variant has the "Jim Henson" text in blue, and "FAMILY CLASSICS" replaces "HOME ENTERTAINMENT". In this version, the logo flips in.
 • On early releases of Where it All Began, the Family Classics variant was still.

FX/SFX: None, except for the logo flipping in for the later Family Classics variant.

Music/Sounds: None or the closing theme of Fraggle Rock.

Availability: Appears on HIT-distributed Fraggle Rock releases, including Where it All Began, Dance Your Cares Away and Live by the Rule of the Rock!.
