Background

KSHB-TV, virtual channel 41 (UHF digital channel 36), is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Kansas City, Missouri, United States and serving the Kansas City metropolitan area. Owned by the Cincinnati-based E. W. Scripps Company, it is part of a duopoly with Lawrence, Kansas-licensed independent station KMCI-TV (channel 38). Both stations share studios on Oak Street in southern Kansas City, Missouri, while it's transmitter is located at the Blue River Greenway in the city's Hillcrest section.

KSHB-TV (Fox)

In the station's early years, it was an affiliate of Fox for approximately 24 years (1970-1994). This was before KSHB-TV became an affiliate of the National Broadcasting Company.

1st ID (1988-1992)

EmbedVideo is missing a required parameter.

Logoː We start off with a close up of the silver word "KSHB" on a blue background. Then the camera backs up & tilts to get in front of it. Meanwhile, a pink line moves downwards quickly, a gold rectangle slides behind, & the number "41" along with "TV" both in silver get right beside "KSHB". When the camera is done, the words "Kansas City" in white slide right below.

FX/SFXː 3D Animation.

Music/Soundsː An instrumental song, along with a male announcer saying "Thank you for watching KSHB-TV 41". Then it switches to a choir saying "KSHB-TV 41ǃ".

Availabilityː Likely rare. Seen on the end of their programs at the time.

Editor's Noteː A great concept for the company & stands as memorable for people in the Late 1980s-Early 1990s.

2nd ID (1992-September 12, 1994)

Logoː The logo moves to the right, while we see "KSHB" in gold on a purple/orange background. While the camera moves, we see "Fox 41" in gold, searchlights, & 2 bars on each side to make it the style of 20th Century Fox. When the camera completes, we see the white text "KSHB-TV Kansas City" below the structure.

FX/SFXː Again, 3D Animation.

Music/Soundsː A Saxophone playing, as well as a deep announcer saying "KSHB Fox 41".

Availabilityː See Last Logo.

Editor's Noteː Although it is a decent logo, it doesn't have the power of the 1st logo. That & the fact they turned into an NBC Affiliate 2 years later makes it short lived than the last logo.

KSHB-TV (NBC)

It officially became an NBC affiliate in September 12, 1994 & still is.

1st ID (1994-1997)

Logoː We see a big number "41" in silver next to the NBC "Peacock", "KSHB" in red below it, & "KSHB TV41 Kansas City" in white below that get in center on a black background.

Variantː

  • At the start of News Programs, the end is already shown. Then it goes in reverse & is faster.
  • Sometimes, the background is different.

FX/SFXː Yet Again, 3D Animation.

Music/Soundsː A male announcer saying "KSHB 41, we're NBC" as well as the iconic NBC jingle.

Availabilityː Seen on Programs & News Intros at Kansas City.
