Background

Kim Lợi Production is a music recording studio in Ho Chi Minh City founded in the early 1990s. It was the earliest in Vietnam and suffered pressure from the influx of overseas music programs.

1st Logo (1990's)

Logo: We fade in to see, on a red brick background, the emerald-colored texts "Kim Lợi Studio" and "T.H production" come out from the sides of the screens and roll out. White Vietnamese text comes up from the bottom of the screen.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: An excerpt from "Tinh Nghe Sy" by Diva Viet, which was distributed by the company.

Availability: Seen on at least one release, which is "Những tình khúc vượt thời gian 01 - Biệt ly"".

2nd Logo (1990's)

Logo: On a grey static picture of a water ripple, we see the emerald-colored text "Kim Lợi" in the top-right corner of the screen and "Production" in the right-center of the screen.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 1st logo.

Availability: Seen on at least one production, which is "Những tình khúc vượt thời gian 02 - Một thuở yêu đàn".

3rd Logo (1997)

Logo: We fade to a light blue background with stars. An explosion occurs on the center of the screen with the logo, consisting of the 3D text "kimlợi" in gold, along with an upside-down reflection of said text in a darker shade and "PRODUCTIONS" in blue and yellow, sandwiched between the 3D text and reflection, zooming in from the explosion.

Technique: Simple computer animation and chroma key.

Music/Sounds: A dramatic futuristic theme with zaps, whooshes and twinkling sounds thrown in it.

Availability: Only seen on VHS releases "Đóa Hoa Vô Thường" in 1997.

4th Logo (1999-2002)

Logo: On a starfield, we see the text "Kim Lợi Production", in emerald, rapidly zoom in with a trail-effect residue. The text zooms in and we see the entire company name sweeping across the screen. The text then zooms out into the starfield with a trail effect.

Technique: Scanimate-like effects.

Music/Sounds: A heavenly crystal-like tune that sounds like the beginning of the opening theme of a breakfast television programme or an anime opening - the song is actually called "I Want to Walk With You" by Japanese musician Seishiro Kusunose, which loops jarringly at the middle of the logo.

Availability: Rare. Can be seen on many Videocassettes, and VCD's by the Kim Lợi Studio Company.

5th Logo (2000)

TBA.

Availability: Ultra rare, as spotted on the VCD The Top Vietnamese Hits from 2000.

6th Logo (2000-2002)

Logo: On a turquoise background, we see an orange translucent disc with "KL" and the text KIM LOI, INC. in yellow sliding in.

Technique: 3D animation.

Music/Sounds: A nice catch reggae tune.

Availability: Apparently can be seen previews at the end on music VHS and DVDs released by Kim Loi.

7th Logo (2002-2010)

Logo: We fade into a purple and black background with a group of orange translucent crystals. The camera pans around the crystals, and with a jarring cut, goes to a slightly different angle. An orange translucent disc with "KL" carved on it slowly turns and rises. The shot fades into a 20th Century Fox-like structure but there are considerably less searchlights and the words are replaced with "KIM LOI PRODUCTIONS". The background is also a blue starry background. The logo fades after doing a turn which also eerily resembles 20th Century Fox's turn, but faster and the opposite direction. The logo fades.

Technique: CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: Same as the fourth logo.

Availability: Scarce. Can be seen on many videocassettes, and Video CD's by the Kim Loi Studio.

8th Logo (2011-present)

Logo: On a black background, we see the camera angles of the newly modernized golden solid disc with "KL" then it rotates it. then the text PRODUCTIONS zooms in.

Technique: 3D animation.

Music/Sounds: A futuristic tune with whispering voice, then a Bolero tune.

Availability: Apparently can be seen on music DVDs released by Kim Loi, alongside on its official YouTube channel, KIM LỢI VN.
