Background
Television Kiribati was the sole, state-owned television service in Kiribati. Established in 2002, it broadcasted local and foreign programmes, and was accessible only in the country's capital, South Tarawa, and in the neighboring island-town of Beito. It provided about an hour of local programming on weekdays, and did not broadcast on weekends.
The government of Kiribati suspended the channel on March 2013, due to serious financial problems, and its personnel's lack of expertise and knowledge in programming and production.
