1st Test Card (November 1986-December 1, 1986)

Visuals: The Telefunken FuBK test card, with the letters "YLE TV3" in a wide font attached to the black section.

Audio: Background audio from the YLE Radio Suomi station's second network is heard playing.

Availability: This was only seen one month before Kolmoskanava officially began broadcasting.

2nd Test Card (December 1, 1986-1991)

Visuals: The Telefunken FuBK test card, with the letters "YLE TV3" attached to the black section. The number 3 is also thinner than the rest of the letters.

Audio: Background audio from the YLE Radio Suomi station's second network is heard playing. After 1990, you'd instead hear the main network.

Availability:

  • This test card was seen at 9 AM to 3 PM, usually on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, if there was no programming at 3 PM, the test card would be seen for longer.
  • This test card wasn't visible on Thursdays due to maintenance regarding transmitters.
  • On Saturdays and Sundays as well as on holidays, this would only be seen a couple minutes before the beginning of the broadcast.
  • On Tuesdays, this test card wasn't seen in all of Finland, but rather, the southernmost part of it. The following transmitters that broadcasted it were located in Anjalankoski, Espoo, Fiskars, Lahti, Pernaja, Tammela, Tampere and Turku.
  • The test card wouldn't be broadcasted after the end of the day's broadcast, since the transmitters were always shut down for the night.

  • For the Eastern Finland side, "TV 3 - Itä-Suomi" is seen, though this has the regular test card background.

Variant: A variant with a smaller and thinner text font exists.
