Background

Lightmotive was an American film production company founded by producer Ben Myron and director Roland Joffe which was founded in 1989. The company usually produced films with Allied Filmmakers, a British film company formed in 1985 by Jake Eberts and Jean Gontier with international sales handled by Majestic Films.

Logo (March 10, 1989-November 3, 2000)

Visuals: Against a black background, the words "LIGHTMOTIVE" fade into view via a "pixelized" effect. The text is written in a tall, fancy serif font and is surrounded by a box, which has changed from rainbow-colored to solid white during the transition. The text then transitions to the words "ALLIED FILMMAKERS" (also in a Serif font) via a "double wipe" effect. Both texts are colored in various rainbow colors. The logo fades away.

Variants:

  • On James and the Giant Peach and a workprint copy of The Princess and the Cobbler, only the "ALLIED FILMMAKERS" animation, starting from the second wipe, plays.
  • On City of Joy, only the "LIGHTMOTIVE" animation, albeit without the wipe, plays. Also "A" and "PRODUCTION" appear above and below the logo respectfully.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None, or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: It can be found on Super Mario Bros. (1993), James and the Giant Peach, and City of Joy. Though it does appear on a workprint copy of it, it does not appear on Fred Calvert's version of The Thief and the Cobbler (The Princess and the Cobbler), as that film only has the Majestic Films logo.
