Background

Lion Television is a British production company that was founded in 1997 by Nick Catliff, Richard Bradley and Jeremy Mills to handle operations in London, Glasgow and New York to handle service for the U.S. and U.K.



1st Logo (1997-2004)


Logo: On a black background, we see dust that forms a white box with the black word "Lion" in it. The logo then shines with a dust effect and flashes, then the box and "Lion" turn white, and the box turns blue with the word "t e l e v i s i o n" in it, along with a line below the logo.

Variants:

  • On shows produced by its Scotland subsidiary, the word "S c o t l a n d" is shown below the line.
  • The logo often shares the screen with other logos.
  • The logo sometimes can be seen in-credit.

Technique: Live-action effects.

Music/Sounds: A heavenly choir theme with xylophone or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Lion Television shows from the era, such as Hotel, Backstage, Paddington Green, documentary series and the U.S. version of Playing It Straight.

2nd Logo (2004-2021)

Logo: On a black background, we see the white word "Lion" flash in with a shine effect, then a bordered square draws in, a filled white square fades in, and the blue rectangle zooms out. As it continues zooming out, a blue line draws in, and the All3Media logo animates below. The word "television" fades in between the word "Lion" and the blue line, and the white outlined square disappears.

Bylines: Starting in 2008, the All3Media byline was added.

  • 2008-2013: "anAll3MEDIAcompany"; the red dot appears from the left of the white box and the words "an" and "company" appear on the left and right sides of the All3Media logo, which fades in underneath.
  • 2013-2021: "anall3mediacompany", with the 2013-2021 All3Media logo animating as normal.

  • Until 2008, the pre-2013 All3Media logo was seen underneath the blue bar.
