Background

Lion Television was a British production company that was founded in 1997 by Nick Catliff, Richard Bradley and Jeremy Mills to handle operations in London, Glasgow and New York to handle service for the U.S. and U.K.

1st Logo (1997-2004)

Logo: On a black background, we see dust that forms a white box with the black word "Lion" in it. The logo then shines with a dust effect and then the logo flashes, and then the box and "Lion" turns white, and the box turns blue with the word "t e l e v i s i o n" in it, along with a line below the logo.

Variants:

  • On shows produced by its Scotland subsidiary, the word "S c o t l a n d" is shown below the line.
  • The logo often shares the screen with other logos.
  • The logo sometimes was in-credit.

FX/SFX: The dust forming the logo.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Lion Television shows from the era, such as Hotel, Backstage, Paddington Green, documentary series and the U.S. version of Playing It Straight.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (2004-2021)

Logo: On a black background, we see the white word "Lion" flashes in with a shine effect, and then a bordered square draws in, and a filled white square fades in, and the blue rectangle zooms out. As it continues zooming out, a blue line draws in, and the All3Media logo animates below. The word "television" fades in between the word "Lion" and the blue line, and the white outlined square disappears.

Bylines:

  • 2004-2013: The pre-2013 All3Media logo animates. Sometimes starting in 2008, the byline "an" and "company" appear on the left and right sides of the All3Media logos.
  • 2013-2021: "anall3mediacompany", with the 2013-2021 All3Media logo animates.

Variants:

  • On shows produced by its Scotland subsidiary, the white word "Scotland" is shown on the blue line.
  • On History Detectives the logo is shortened.
  • Sometimes, this logo shares the screen with other logos.
  • Sometimes, the logo is still.
  • Sometimes, it was an in-credit logo.
  • Sometimes, the word "Lion" was bolder, and the All3Media International logo is below.

FX/SFX: The light flashing.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show.

Availability: It was seen on it's shows produced by Lion Television from 2004 until 2021, such as the original UK version of Cash Cab, History Detectives, the US version of Cash Cab as well as the original and the revival version of Horrible Histories, Play Your Pets Right, Horrible Histories: Gory Games, Homes Under the Hammer, The Battle for Britain and the Kids for Counting series, among others.

The logo shines, and the background dims to black, as the 2021-present All3Media logo fades in, along with the byline "An All3Media Company" on the right, below the logo.
