1st Warning (1988-1993)
Visuals: Over a black background is the following warning text:
is protected by copyright. It is for
use by purchaser only and any other
use including copying or reproduction,
in whole or in part, is prohibited by law.
Variants:
- Starting with the original release of Barney's Birthday, the warning text is longer, modified and in a Dawncastle Bold font. The warning text in this version reads:
This recording and all constituent elements are protected
by the copyright laws and other laws of the United States
of America and of other Nations. The unauthorized use,
rerecording, or duplication of this Program, in whole or
in part, is a violation of the rights of the Owner and
others, and may constitute a criminal offense punishable
by substantial fines and/or imprisonment.
- On the original VHS of Barney's Magical Musical Adventure and some copies of the original pressing of Barney's Birthday, the "NOTICE:" header in the later variant is removed, and the warning text is slightly shifted up.
Technique: None.
Audio: None.
Availability:
- The original version was seen on all Barney and the Backyard Gang videos, including the 1992 re-prints; examples are Barney in Concert and Rock with Barney.
- The later version appeared on Barney's Magical Musical Adventure and single-episode Barney & Friends VHS releases (specifically those that had early season 1 episodes), such as Barney's Birthday (which contained the episode "Happy Birthday, Barney!"), Barney's Best Manners (which had the episode "A Splash Party, Please") and Barney's Rhymes with Mother Goose (which had the episode "Let's Help Mother Goose!").
2nd Warning (1996-2003)
Visuals: Same as the 3rd Media Home Entertainment warning screen, but the text is yellow, the background is blue-purple and made of stone, and there's no line above "INTERPOL WARNING".
Variants:
- There exist two variants in which the seal is absent:
- The HiT Entertainment release of VeggieTales: The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown has similar FBI Warnings, with white text and without the background or the FBI Seal, also the background is blue.
- On Barney's Stu-u-upendous Puzzle Fun!, the background is opaque in a lighter tint.
- A French version exists on the French VHS print of Barney's Imagination Island.
Technique: Fading effects.
Audio: None.
Availability: It can be seen on Lyrick Studios and early HiT Entertainment releases on VHS like VeggieTales, Barney, Wishbone, The Wiggles, and Bob the Builder.
- It is also seen on some Everland/Word Entertainment tapes of VeggieTales from 1998 to 2001 such as some copies of Lyle the Kindly Viking, King George & the Ducky, Esther: The Girl Who Became Queen, Where's God When I'm S-Scared?, Josh & the Big Wall!, and Very Silly Songs! (the latter two only used the first screen, much like the Lyrick Studios copies).
- Later HiT VHS releases and all HiT DVDs use their own screen.
