Background

MGM Family Entertainment (formerly known as MGM/UA Family Entertainment) was a kids and family division of MGM Home Entertainment that was created in 1994 and remained in use until 2003 in favor of MGM Kids.

Visuals: The standard MGM logo is posed against a light blue shaded background. Without "TRADE MARK" word and the drama mask, the lion cubs stay in place. We see Leo inside a filmstrip circle with four filmstrips. The text "MGM/UA FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT", with two lines above and below the name, is at the bottom of the cubs. Leo roars twice.

Trivia: This was originally introduced as a print logo on the VHS reprints of The Black Stallion, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and The Secret of NIMH, which were released on August 31, 1994.

Variants:

A high-quality gold variant with no animation exists, which appears on some video games such as The Pink Panther: Passport to Peril. The lines and text are white-colored. The Pink Panther: Hokus Pokus Pink also uses this variant, with a copyright for United Artists.
On All Dogs Go To Heaven Activity Center and Babes in Toyland, the frame rate of MGM lion roaring is uneven.
Some trailers have the logo shortened, using the lion's first roar.

Technique: Live-action footage is used for Leo, with the filmstrip being an illustration, the lion cubs being photographs and the rest of the logo being a digital graphic.

Audio: Leo's 1994 roar. However, an edited version of the first roar plays instead of the actual second roar.

Audio Variants:

On the PC software titles such as Babes in Toyland, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Adventure in Tinker Town and All Dogs Go To Heaven Activity Center, the 1995 roar is used.
- On Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Adventure in Tinker Town, the 1994 roar is in a lower tone.

Availability: It generally appars on material released under the MGM/UA Family Entertainment banner (and promos for films released under it).

Titles with this logo include the 1995 VHS release of The Pebble and the Penguin, a 1998 print of The Princess Bride as well as earlier VHS releases of All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, respectively.
The 1998 release of Napoleon (1995) also has this logo despite being branded as an Orion Home Video release on the packaging (as MGM was using Orion to get around their deal with Warner Home Video at the time); later prints have the MGM Family Entertainment logo on the box and MGM ink labels.
It also appears on some interactive child-oriented games based on some animated films such as All Dogs Go To Heaven Activity Center.
It also appears on several international releases from Warner Home Video.

Visuals: There is the same MGM lion and the cubs (added with two) as before, inside a half dark teal oval-cut on an orange shaded background. Underneath the lion is a gold drama mask. Above the logo is a gold engraved bar that reads "MGM FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT". Leo roars once.

Technique: Live-action footage.

Audio: Leo's roaring, alongside the beginning of the promo.

Availability: It was used on a promo for releases released under the division.
