Media West Home Video

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

1st Logo (1986)

Logo: On a black background, a grey circle is seen with a light blue "MW" in a Bauhaus-like font, conjoined together and tilted at an angle, inside of it. Below the logo is the text "Media West" in a stacked form and "HOME VIDEO" in white. Surrounding the logo is a arch-like border in light blue, which glows after a few seconds.

Variants:

  • A variant has the logo smaller with "PRODUCED BY" above it, and the "MW" in white. No glow is also shown.
    • An animated variant has the "PRODUCED BY" fade in first, followed by the logo. The "PRODUCED BY" text fades out, and then the border glows.
  • Another still variant has the logo all in navy blue and on a grey background. Below it is copyright information in yellow.

Technique: Computer effects.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the program or none.

Availability: Extremely rare. Seen on the original prints of the On Assignment series, located at the end of the programs.

2nd Logo (1986?-1991)

Logo: On a periwinkle background, 2 pairs of metallic shapes are seen rotating and zooming: the first pair is a double-hooked bar and 2 smaller pieces floating about, rotating quickly while it zooms in. The second group is 4 large curves, with the duos being mirrored copies of each other, zooming out and rotating slowly until it stops into place at the top of the screen. The 1st pair continues to spin until it interlocks with the large curves, forming the "MW" shape. The stacked text "Media West Home Video" then fades in at the bottom.

Technique: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A triumphant synth theme with drums serving as the rhythm, Near the end it sounds strikingly similar to Keith Mansfield's "Superstar".

Availability: Extremely rare. Seen on On Assignment: The Video Guide from a sampler DVD. It possibly also appeared on other reprints of their tapes.

3rd Logo (1991-2004)

Logo: On a black background, a silver shape starts to zoom up from the bottom right corner of the screen, slowly revealing itself to be an outline of the MW logo from the previous logos. As soon as it reaches the middle of the screen, it extrudes out a blue and white version of the logo as the silver border disappears. The logo then rotates towards the screen, with "<span style="font-family:'CourierMedia West, Inc.';">{{{2}}}" fading in below, and the logo turning to 2D.

Technique: CGI.

Music/Sounds: Andy Clarke's "Moog Statement 14", just like Crown Movie Classics, Cobra Media, and Worldvision (pitched down).

Availability: Extremely rare. Mainly appeared on the On Assignment series of videos as later reprints.
