Background
Metro TV is Indonesia's first 24-hour news channel, based in West Jakarta. Established in 25 November 2000, this station now has over 53 transmission sites all over the country. It is owned by Surya Paloh who also owns the Media Indonesia newspaper.
1st Logo (2000)
Nicknames: "The Metallic Tower", "The Eagle's Head", "MetroTV Eagle"
Logo: On a shining gray background, we pan from the top of a metallic tower (with a blue tip) to the bottom. Along the way are a large ring and a large wheel-shaped object, both surrounding the tower. Then we focus over the wheel object, where we see the MetroTV logo (which is the words "Metr" in blue, "TV" in gold and the O being a gold circular disc with an eagle's head over it) sitting on it. We pan down again to the bottom until another, larger MetroTV logo appears zooming out (this time with the words "TV" blue too), covering the tower. The logo flickers and glows until the background turns into a smoky teal background.
Technique: The panning of the tower, the logo zooming out, the changing backgrounds. All with very great CGI.
Music/Sounds: A short dramatic jingle.
Availability: Extinct. Only used for a very short time during MetroTV's broadcast trial (will be replaced by the logo below), but surprisingly made an appearance at 25 November 2014 during Metro TV's 14th anniversary.
Legacy: The dramatic music may put some people off, but it's a news channel after all, and the animation looks fantastic!
2nd Logo (2000-2007)
Nicknames: "The Golden Eagle (Version 1)", "The Blue Eagle (Version 2)", "The Eagle's Head II", "MetroTV Eagle II"
Logo: There are two versions:
- Version 1 (30 seconds): On a black background, we see a yellow light in the center. The light grows brighter (turning the background into a segmented yellow BG) and appears to be coming from a bright yellow oval-shape hole. Then, oval-shaped trails appear to come into the hole, and the MetroTV logo in gold carves itself out of the segmented background, excluding the eagle's head, which goes into the hole. We follow the head into various outlines of the MetroTV logo as light rays came out of the head and materialize into a hologram of the Indonesian map. After a while of this, the camera goes into a different angle and zooms into the outline of the "R" from "METRO". Then it goes into the normal angle and zooms into the oval-shaped hole, leading to another segmented yellow background with a golden globe spinning at the center. The eagle stops and flashes the words "METR TV" and the golden disc behind it. The globe spins.
- Version 2 (15 seconds): On a moving blue segmented blue background, we see a segmented blue MetroTV logo zooming out slowly as numerous holograms and objects appear. When it did, the segmented logo turns full and the disc behind the eagle (which is blue before) turns gold. Not to mention the company's name color turns teal.
Variants: One alternate variant for the blue version is when the segmented logo turns full, the company's name color stays the same, so does the disc.
Technique: The CGI isn't as great as before, though. Still pretty decent for a 2000 logo.
Music/Sounds: A 30-second patriotic theme with a 15-note intro, which later became MetroTV's official theme. Also for the yellow version, there are whooshes and laser sounds accompanying the rays. For the blue version, just the theme alone, shortened to 15-seconds.
Availability: Extinct by now, but very common in the past. It is usually seen after shows end and also before Headline News.
