Michael Mann Productions
Background
This was Heat writer/director Michael Mann's production company, used to produce the television shows Miami Vice and Crime Story. It was later renamed Forward Pass and expanded to film production.
Logo (September 16, 1984-January 25, 1990)
Visuals: On a black background, "MiCHAEL MANN" is seen in a stylized font, with "a" and "p r o d u c t i o n" above and below it in a smaller, less stylized font. Behind it, two screens, both with odd neon-colored shapes on them, flash multiple times. The first shows a fence-looking door with a blue squiggle to the right, and the second shows a row of lines arranged like a rectangle and a weird "splotch" thing. They eventually stop flashing, landing on the second screen.
Variants:
- On Miami Vice, the flashing is played in sync with the closing notes of the show's theme.
- On early episodes of Miami Vice, the animation is slower with different shapes appearing. It also shakes a lot.
Technique: 2D (cel?) animation.
Audio: The closing theme of the show.
Audio Variant: On the second episode of Miami Vice on the U.S. Season 1 DVD, the 1982 Universal Television theme plays over it.
Availability: Seen on Miami Vice (episode 2 carries a in-credit notice for "The Michael Mann Co. Inc.") and Crime Story.
