Background
Millar Gough Ink is an American television and film production company founded in 1997 by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough. They are know for having co-produced television series and films.
1st Logo (October 12th, 1999-November 10th, 2011)
Logo: In an office setting, at the forefront, we see a bottle filled with orange red ink in it labeled the stacked words reading with the company name in an Impact font colored in a gold-silver gradient. After one of the music variants are heard, a hammer (which, if you look very, very closely, you can see a hammer falling down, as seen in the reflection on the bottle) swings down and breaks the bottle, causing the ink in it to spread everywhere, covering up the whole screen.
Variant: There exists an open-matte version of the logo.
FX/SFX: Entirely live-action.
Music/Sounds:
- October 12th, 1999-July 7th, 2000: The closing theme of the show, along with the splattering sound.
- October 16th, 2001-February 12th, 2002: Originally, there is only just the sound of a bottle breaking.
- February 26th, 2002-May 21st, 2002: An odd, 3-note piano tune with an eerie sound effect.
- September 24th, 2002-November 10th, 2011: A reverberating cartoon ditty.
Music/Sounds Variants:
- There is an silent variant of the logo where the sound of a bottle breaking is absent. This can be seen on episodes "X-Ray" and "Hug" of season 1 of Smallville.
- On early episodes of season 2 of Smallville, the reverberating cartoon ditty is somewhat slightly quieter.
- Some of the original airings use a generic theme and a voice over.
- On the Smallville season 5 episode "Arrival", the bottle breaking sound is in sync with the last note of the reverberating cartoon ditty music.
Availability: Common. First seen on the short-lived series The Strip, and later seen on Smallville and the 2011 remake of Charlie's Angels on ABC, Sony Crackle and the CTV Throwback in Canada. It is also seen on the 2011 revival show, which was also initially released as a Blu-ray print by Mill Creek Entertainment, and also seen on the 2011 revival show as a DVD release by ABC Signature. It also made an appearance on the 2006 television pilot of Aquaman, which was initially released on iTunes on July 2006 and later included as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray release of Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. It may have also appeared on Channel 4 and E4 UK airings and 2003 DVD releases of season 1 of Smallville. This also appeared on Blu-ray prints of Smallville. It is also seen on the DVD releases of Smallville. This doesn't appear on films such as Hannah Montana: The Movie, which has the different company's logo instead. This doesn't appear either on some television shows or films starting with Bugs and ending with Made Men, which also has the different company's logo instead. This logo was likely ended on November 2011. This is also seen on the short-lived series The Strip on UPN.
Legacy: While the sound of the bottle breaking can be startling for some people (especially the variant without music where it breaks with no warning, which could be jarring to many people) and it is slightly less-scary in the music variant, some people may find this logo funny, and it may be favored for fans of Smallville.
2nd Logo (November 15th, 2015-)
Logo: On a black background, we see the stacked dark red words "MILLAR GOUGH" in a Helvetica font. To the right of it is a dark red beaker with a black water drop and the dark red word "INK" inside.
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: None, or the ending theme of the show.
Availability: Currently seen on the 2015 AMC series Into the Badlands and the 2016 MTV series The Shannara Chronicles. This logo is expected to appear on the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday.
