Background

Millar Gough Ink is a production company founded in 1997 by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough.

1st Logo (October 12, 1999-November 10, 2011)


Logo: In an office, a bottle with orange red ink inside of it labeled the stacked words reading with the company name in an Impact font colored in a gold-white gradient is shown at the middle. After one of the music variants are played, a hammer (which, if you look very, very closely, you can be see the hammer falling down in the reflection on the bottle) falls down on top and breaks the bottle, causing the ink in it to spread everywhere, covering up the whole screen.

Variant: There exists an open-matte version of the logo. There is also a letterbox version of the logo where it is cropped in the 4:3 aspect ratio. This can be seen on 4:3 prints of all episodes of Smallville and the short-lived series The Strip.

FX/SFX: Entirely live-action.

Music/Sounds:

  • 1999: The closing theme of the show, along with a splattering sound.
  • 2001-2002: Just a sound of the glass shattering.
  • Early 2002: An odd, 3-note piano tune, accompanied by an eerie, distorted chorus.
  • 2002-2011: A reverberating 13-note synth-organ ditty, followed by a last note and a glass shattering sound.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • On the Smallville season 1 episodes "X-Ray" and "Hug", the glass shattering sound is absent.
  • On the early episodes of season 2 of Smallville, the synth-organ ditty is somewhat slightly quieter before the glass shattering sound appears.

Availability: Common. First seen on the short-lived series The Strip, and later seen on Smallville and the 2011 remake of Charlie's Angels on ABC. It also made an appearance on the 2006 television pilot of Aquaman, which was initially released on iTunes and later included as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray release of Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.

2nd Logo (November 15, 2015-)

Logo: On a black background, we see the stacked red words "MILLAR GOUGH". To the right of it is a red beaker with a black water drop in it, and inside the drop, we see the red text "INK".

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None, or the ending theme of the show.

Availability: Currently seen on the 2015 AMC series Into the Badlands and the 2016 MTV series The Shannara Chronicles. It's expected to appear on the upcoming 2022 Netflix series Wednesday.
