'''Legacy:''' For the variant with only the sound of the glass breaking, it can be startling for some people (especially the variant with no music where it breaks with no warning, which can be jarring to many people), and however, for the music variant, it is slightly less-scary than the earlier variant, some people may find this logo funny, and it may be favored for fans of ''Smallville''.

Background

Millar Gough Ink is a television and film production company founded in 1997 by the Smallville creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough. They are know for co-producing television series.

1st Logo (October 12th, 1999-November 10th, 2011)

Logo: In an office setting, at the forefront, we see a bottle filled with scarlet ink in it labeled the stacked gold-white gradient words reading with the company name in an Impact font. After one of the music variants are played, a hammer (which, if you look very, very closely, you can see a hammer falling down, as seen in the reflection on the bottle) falls down on top of it and breaks it, causing the ink in it to spread everywhere, covering up the whole screen.

Variant: There exists an open-matte version of the logo.

FX/SFX: Entirely live-action. The live-action logo was made by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Music/Sounds:

  • October 12th, 1999-July 7th, 2000: The closing theme of the show before the splattering sound.
  • October 16th, 2001-February 12th, 2002: Originally, it has the sound of a glass breaking.
  • February 26th, 2002-May 21st, 2002: An odd, 3-note piano tune, accompanied by an eerie noise.
  • September 24th, 2002-November 10th, 2011: An 13-note reverberating soothing pleasant cathedral organ cartoon ditty, accompanied by an 7-note instrumental tune, followed by a last note then the glass breaking sound.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • There is an silent variant of the logo without the sound of a glass breaking, which looked like it is soothing in the silent variant. This can be seen on episodes "X-Ray" and "Hug" of season 1 of Smallville and either on the UPN airings of the short-lived series The Strip.
  • On early episodes of season 2 of Smallville, the pleasant ditty is somewhat slightly quieter.
  • Some of the original airings use a generic theme and a voice over.
  • On the Smallville season 5 episode "Arrival", the bottle breaking sound is in sync with the last note of the cartoon ditty.

Availability: Common. First seen on the short-lived series The Strip, and later seen on Smallville and the 2011 remake of Charlie's Angels on ABC, Sony Crackle and the CTV Throwback in Canada. It is also seen on the 2011 revival show, which was also initially released as a Blu-ray print by Mill Creek Entertainment, and also seen on the 2011 revival show as a DVD release by ABC Signature. It may have also appeared on Channel 4 and E4 UK airings and 2003 DVD releases of season 1 of Smallville. This also appeared on Blu-ray prints of Smallville. It is also seen on the DVD releases of Smallville. This doesn't appear on films such as Hannah Montana: The Movie, which has the different company's logo instead. This doesn't appear either on some television shows or films starting with Bugs and ending with Made Men, which also has the different company's logo instead.
