Background

Modern Sound Pictures Incorporated was founded in 1937 by Keith and Margareth Smith. The company continued to be run by their daughter, Sandra Smith until around 2017.

(1937?-November 7, 1970?)

Visuals: On a black background, a grey TV tube that is turned 45 degrees counterclockwise is seen. The word "Modern" in a fancy font is situated over the tube, and below it to the right are the words "SOUND PICTURES" in a square font, and "INCORPORATED" in a much smaller face below that. The words "A KEITH T. SMITH" and "RELEASE" appear above and below "SOUND PICTURES", respectively.

Variants:

  • There is a closing variant reading "The END" above the logo. The text is slightly rearranged and "PRESENTATION" replaces "RELEASE".
  • On the shortened cut of Santa and the Three Bears and Blood of the Vampire, the black ground is replaced with a sloppily-painted multicolored background. The TV tube is also colored in tea green, and the fonts for "A KEITH T. SMITH", "INCORPORATED", and "RELEASE" are different.

Technique: None.

Audio: The opening or closing music of the film or silence.

Availability: Seen on 16mm prints of movies such as the shortened cut of Santa and the Three Bears, Back Page, Corridor of Mirrors, Blood of the Vampire, Cave of the Living Dead, and The Golden Madonna.
