Background

Motown Software (also referred to as Motown Games) was a short-lived video game division of Motown Records. Their emphasis was on releasing African-American games, but only two games, Bébé's Kids and Rap Jam: Volume One, were released and both received negative reception.

1st Logo (April 1994)

Visuals: On a black background, the Motown Software appears in a pixelated fade-in. The logo has a white square with the blue stylized Motown "M" with "MOTOWN" below, also in blue. A registered trademark symbol (®) is near the company name. Beneath the square is "SOFTWARE" in white. After a moment, it fades out (also pixelated).

Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic with pixelated fading effects.

Audio: Just the opening theme of the game.

Availability: Only appeared on one game: Bébé's Kids for the Super NES.

2nd Logo (January 1995)

Visuals: This is a logo combination for both Motown Games and Mandingo Entertainment. On a black background is an icy blue rectangle on the upper left. Inside the rectangle is a black box with the Motown "M" and "MOTOWN®" all in blue. At the bottom is "GAMES" stenciled in with the "A" in blue. On the right is a red cube with an "M" in the front and an "E" on top. All letters are green with black bordering. On the right of the cube is a blue button with a blue gradient square (representing a speaker) behind the button. "M A N D I N G O" in a thin yellow font appears on top. "ENTERTAINMENT INC" appears at the bottom aside the cube. At the bottom is "PRESENT" in a hip-hop font with blue, gold and brown coloring. After a second, a black hand with red bordering comes in from the right and pushes the button on the Mandingo Entertainment logo.

Technique: Sprite-based animation.

Audio: Just a hip-hop beat when the hand pushes the button which is actually the main theme of the game.

Availability: Again only appears on one game: Rap Jam: Volume One for the SNES.
