Background
NEC (Nippon Denki Kabushiki Gaisha) is a Japanese international electronics company, specializing mostly in the computer market. They pulled out the PC-8801 and PC-9801 around the early 1980s, both having major success inside Japan (the PC-9801, even if it still was using outdated 8-bit technology, was still selling well among otaku gamers leading into late discontinuation in 2001). In the video game console industry, the company released the PC Engine (marketed as the TurboGrafx 16 in North America), the PC Engine CD/TurboGrafx CD, and the PC-FX.
