Background

National Iranian Radio and Television, or NIRT for short, was the first Iranian state broadcaster, which was established on June 19, 1971, following the merger of the country's radio and television services. It operated up until the Iranian Revolution in 1979, after which NIRT became the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

1st ID (June 19, 1971-Early 1979)


Visuals: Over a black background is the NIRT symbol, which consists of two heraldic lion rampants facing opposite each other, and the text "رادیو تلویزیون ملی ایران", all in white.

Technique: Printed image.

Audio: A portion of "Out of "Last Pieces"" composed by Morton Feldman and conducted by Leonard Bernstein.

2nd ID (Early 1980s)

Visuals: On a red background, a white rectangle containing an outlined black outlined TV tube shape with the black text "PS-TV" in a stacked format at the right, the black text "سیمای آشنا" at the bottom, and a half of a red flower with a green receptacle zooms in from the lower-left portion and dissipates from a pixel effect.
