Embassy Home Entertainment

1st Warning (1982-1983)

Same as the VidAmerica warning screen at the time.

2nd Warning (1983-December 4, 1991?)

Warning: On a purple background, we see the FBI square (a big white "FBI" with the FBI logo in white). Next to it is a white square with black text. Between some of the text is the crimson text "WARNING!"

Variants:

  • There is a tacked-on copyright date on Unicorn Video releases.
  • Sometimes the background is blue.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: This was used for Embassy Home Entertainment and Nelson Entertainment before New Line Home Video took over their home entertainment department. On New Line releases, can be seen on City Slickers and Eve of Destruction starring Gregory Hines. Also seen on Video Treasures, Strand Home Video, Fries Home Video and early MPI Home Video releases, as well as Kultur Video releases throughout the '80s. Surprisingly, it made an appearance on the 1992 MGM/UA demo VHS of Time Bomb.

New Line Home Entertainment

1st Warning (December 11, 1991?-2008)

Warning: Same as the 3rd MGM/UA Home Video warning screen.

Variant: A digitally recreated version of this warning exists on DVDs.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on New Line Home Video tapes from 1991-1998. Also seen on early New Line Home Video DVDs as well.

2nd Warning (March 4, 1992)

Warning: Same as the RCA/Columbia Home Video warning screen at the time.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Only seen on the 1992 VHS of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, which was co-released by Columbia TriStar Home Video.

3rd Warning (March 24, 1998-2008)


Warning: Kind of an updated version of the 1st warning. The shadow effects are white, "WARNING" is a bit skinnier and the text is bolder. Also, the lining of the text is very different as well.

Variant:

  • On many DVD releases, a digitally recreated version exists where all of the text is wider and in a different font.
  • A different DVD variant exists on some DVDs manufactured by Cinram, starting in 1999. The "WARNING" text is smaller. has a grey shadow, and the text is in a different font with different formatting.
  • A custom-made version was seen on The Golden Compass.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on New Line Home Video/Entertainment releases until 2008.

Final Note: After 2008, New Line Home Entertainment began using the warnings from Warner Home Video.
