Background

Novel Entertainment is a production company based in Oxford that was founded in 2001 by Mike Watts and Lucinda Whiteley. They are known for specializing in popular children's brands, such as producing Horrid Henry.

1st Logo (September 23, 2002-)

Visuals: Usually an in-credit notice, this logo consists of "Novel" in a large size and "ENTERTAINMENT" inside a small rectangle. A blue star with "A" in white is seen above the logo as well as "PRODUCTION" being underneath the rectangle.

Variants:

  • Before the premiere of Horrid Henry on October 30, 2006, an animated variant would be used: a stylized book opens itself up to reveal sparkles with the "A" star forming, and the logo. The book becomes a blue rectangle with the "PRODUCTION" text in white.
  • Starting on February 16, 2009, the only elements of the logo are now just the company's name, excluding both the star below the logo, and the rectangle above it.
  • On The Roly Mo Show, the logo is inside a box with a yellow outline alongside the BBC logo underneath it.
  • Horrid Henry has various different alignments of the logo throughout the years, but its usual appearance on the show includes the logo being on a green slime shape, which is similar to the one used by the show's logo, next to Henry finishing his dancing.
    • The first season has the slime shape more centered with a copyright notice in a blue Arial font underneath it.
    • The second season aligns the slime shape more towards the left and is bigger with the copyright notice in red and similar to the font of the show's logo.
    • On CITV airings of Season 2 (as aforementioned), the CITV logo appears on top, and the copyright notice is moved underneath the slime shape.
    • On CITV airings of the third season, the slime shape is moved more upwards, the logo is squished, and the copyright notice overlaps more with the shape. On the first four episodes, the 2006-2009 CITV logo is used; after that, the 2009-2013 logo is used.
    • On non-CITV airings of Season 3 (as aforementioned), the logo is removed, leaving a large blank space on top.
    • In Season 4, the logo takes up most of the slime shape with the copyright notice more farther apart from the shape.
    • In Season 5, the copyright notice is not only simplified, but also the words "Produced By KING HENRY PRODUCTIONS LTD for" are placed on the top of the logo.

Technique: None usually. 2D animation for the animated variant.

Audio: The closing theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on shows produced by them such as Fimbles, The Roly Mo Show, and Horrid Henry.

2nd Logo (July 29, 2011-)

Visuals: On a dark blue background, there are two thick, curved paths turning left and right simultaneously to mimic the opening of a book, just like the previous logo's animated variant. This animation is repeated several more times, each time with the lines growing in brightness. They reveal a letter "V" with light dust coming out of the stylised pages and with the animation zooming out revealing "A" and "PRODUCTION" over and underneath. The rest of "NOVEL" wipes from the top, removing the curved paths entirely to allow "ENTERTAINMENT" to fly in between "NOVEL" and "PRODUCTION" by one letter. Throughout the whlole sequence, the shadow of the logo can be seen moving from the right side to the left side of the screen.

Variants:

  • On Cinemaniacs, the promotional short film Horrid Henry and the Groovy Grandma and on the Horrid Henry Mash-Ups, the logo is re-animated. This time, there are no shadows on the logo, making the background purely black.
    • Cinemaniacs has it shrunken down to fit the CBBC logo on.
    • The Horrid Henry Mash-Ups have a copyright notice below, although the timing on when it appears depends on the feature (e.g, on Horrid Henry and the Scooter of Doom, it briefly blends into the "production" portion of the logo). The logo's placement varies as well, where it may be closer to the screen or further away.
      • On Horrid Henry's Holiday Mash-Up, a picture frame appears over the logo as it forms (the same one featured in the end credits of the feature), and zooms away before the copyright fades in.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Depends on either the show, or a movie:

  • Horrid Henry: The Movie - The opening theme of the movie.
  • Cinemaniacs - The closing theme of the show.
  • Horrid Henry and the Groovy Grandma/Horrid Henry Mash-Ups - A mystical tune that ends in a fanfare.

Availability: Appears on Horrid Henry: The Movie, and later appeared on Cinemaniacs, the promotional short film Horrid Henry and the Groovy Grandma (made for the Great Ormond Street Hospital), and the YouTube compilation series Horrid Henry Mash-Ups, currently consisting of "Horrid Henry's Holiday Mash-Up", "Horrid Henry and the Scooter of Doom", "Horrid Henry Football Fever" and "Moody Margaret's Princess Diaries".
