Background

This is actor-comedian Paul Reiser's production company. This name comes from the 1982 movie, Diner, in which he starred in. A scene in the movie has his character talking about his discomfort with the word "Nuance".

1st Logo (December 5, 1987)

Logo: We see the text "NUANCE PRODUCTIONS" with two blue lines under it, both on a black background.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme to the program.

Availability: Appears on Paul Reiser: Out on a Whim, which is available on a Vestron Video VHS.

2nd Logo (September 23, 1992-December 18, 2019)

Logo: On a gray marble background, we see the text:

Nuance

Productions

in Times New Roman Italic in black. Then a hand (presumably that of Paul Reiser himself) reaches in and moves the first word up a little.

Variants:

  • In 2011, the logo was remade in HD with different hand footage.
  • A rare variant was spotted on the 1994 prototype reel of NBC's split-screen credits (known as "NBC 2000"); During the Mad About You[1] demo, a modified version of the logo is inside of the credits. The logo is much smaller (with the background filling the entire frame).

Technique: Live action.

Music/Sounds: No music, but we hear a sliding sound as the hand moves "Nuance" up. NBC and Fox airings used a generic theme. Starting in 2017, it has a different sliding sound.

Availability: Seen on Mad About You (both the 1992-1999 series and its 2019 revival) and the direct-to-video movie Popeye's Voyage: The Quest for Pappy, as well as a Fox airing of said movie on December 17, 2004 and December 30, 2005. It was also seen on The Paul Reiser Show and There's... Johnny.
