Background

On March 4, 2013, former Viacom president and CEO Philippe Dauman announced the relaunch of Paramount Television, although the company had previously co-produced the Entertainment One series The Firm a year earlier. The television series that have been recently announced are School of Rock, Galaxy Quest, Minority Report, a live Grease musical, an adaptation of the memoir Bettyville, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, and a prequel to Shutter Island called Ashecliffe. In January 2020, the division was rebranded as Paramount Television Studios.

1st Logo (January 8-July 14, 2012)

Logo: Technically just an in-credit logo. We see the Paramount Pictures print logo with the Viacom byline in the "Wigga Wigga" font with "In association with" above the logo.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the program.

Availability: Ultra rare. Seen only for the short-lived series The Firm.

2nd Logo (September 21, 2015- )

Logo: On the background of the current Paramount logo, we see the mountain already in the distance. Then, 22 stars encircle the mountain. At the same time, one by one, the words "Paramount Television" zoom out to the top of the mountain. The Viacom or ViacomCBS byline fades in below the mountain.

Trivia: The logo seems to be a throwback to the 1968 Paramount Television "Rising Circle" logo, such as the placement of "Television" to "Paramount" and both being above the peak of the mountain.

Bylines:

• September 21, 2015-December 4, 2019: "A VIaCOM COMPANY"
• February 6, 2020-: "A ViacomCBS Company"

Variants:

• The logo may be still. This can be seen on shows like Vinyl, The Disappearance of Madeline McCann, Watchmen and Briarpatch.
• Nearly a month after Minority Report premiered, starting with episode 4, the animation is slowed down.
• On School of Rock, the logo is on the bottom-left corner of the screen, and is silent like other logos on Nickelodeon shows as the network only uses split-screen credits today. This only appears on original Nick airings, otherwise if you were to view it elsewhere (for example, online), this would not be the case.
• One airing of Grease Live! showed the first couple seconds of the logo before cutting it off early due to time.
• Starting in 2016 with the last 2 episodes of Vinyl (the still variant), the logo was updated considerably. A fully animated version of this logo didn't debut until Berlin Station premiered. Compared to the other versions, the animation is smoother, the stars are at an angle at first but tilt to position, the text has better animation (and also shines, both the text and stars are a blueish-brownish gradient color, and the Viacom byline is changed from the print logo's byline to the exact same one from the movie logo. This version plastered the prototype logo on most episodes of the show on Blu-ray.
• Even though the above version debuted in 2016, School of Rock continued to use the 2015 version until 2018.
• On most episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events (the Netflix TV series), a still image of the theatrical logo is used.
• On some shows distributed by Paramount Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution (the current distribution unit of Paramount Television Studios), such as Spin City, the current closing logo for Paramount Pictures is used. It's basically the same as the A Series of Unfortunate Events variant, but with the moving clouds in the background. Other shows internationally distributed by Paramount, like PEN15 and Dwight in Shining Armor just use the standard Paramount Television logos.
• Starting with Briarpatch, the byline is bigger (even bigger than the byline in the theatrical logo), set in Gotham, and now says "A ViacomCBS Company".
• Starting in January 2020, the "Television" text is replaced with the much smaller text "TELEVISION STUDIOS" set in the Avenir font, resulting in the "Paramount" script being larger and the entire text being in a lower position above the mountain.
• Strangely, season 1 of Home Before Dark used the "Paramount Television" text above the mountain with the ViacomCBS byline. The show premiered after the name change to Paramount Television Studios.
• On shows shot in the 18:9 or 2.39:1 aspect ratios, the "Paramount TELEVISION STUDIOS" text is smaller than usual.
• On shows starting in 2021 with Made for Love, the byline's font is set in ViacomCBS Raisonné (their parent's corporate font, which is a modified version of Raisonné).

FX/SFX: Like its movie counterpart by Devastudios, it uses CGI.

Music/Sounds:

• September 21, 2015: The last 5 notes of the 1976 "Paramount on Parade" fanfare. Only heard on the first episode of Minority Report.
• September 28-November 30, 2015: The last note of the current Paramount Pictures fanfare by Michael Giacchino. Heard on the remaining episodes of the aforementioned show.
• January 31, 2016-December 4, 2019: A longer, more majestic, double-pitched arrangement of the Paramount fanfare by Michael Giacchino. First heard on Grease Live!, then heard on shows like 13 Reasons Why, Condor, and the Spanish version of To Catch a Thief.
• March 12, 2016-April 8, 2018: The last 6 notes of the 1976 "Paramount on Parade" fanfare. Only heard on School of Rock.
• October 16, 2016-: A re-orchestrated version of the Grease Live! Paramount fanfare by Michael Giacchino. This time it's in the fanfare's normal pitch. First heard on Berlin Station and would later be heard on nearly every Paramount TV show from 2016 to the present.
• On Season 1 episodes of Shooter, while the closing theme to the show plays on the combo, by the time the Paramount logo shows up the music would fade out, thus making the logo almost silent (you can still hear the tail end of the closing theme on the logo).
• The logo may be silent or have the closing theme play over it on some shows.

Music/Sounds Variants:

• On the miniseries Maniac, during the fanfare, Owen can be heard saying, "Annie, I'm a hawk!" and then the sound of a hawk squawking is played.
• On the series adaptation of First Wives Club, the fanfare is sped up.
• On season 2 of The Alienist, only the last 2 notes of the fanfare are heard.

• Seen on all shows from Paramount Television Studios since 2015.
• First seen on Minority Report, and later appeared on the HBO series Vinyl, and the Nickelodeon series School of Rock. Also appeared on Grease Live!, Berlin Station, and the Shooter TV series.
• It also surprisingly appeared at the end of a November 4, 2017 TeenNick (NickSplat) airing of Hey Arnold!: The Movie.

Editor's Note: Although the reminiscent qualities of the logo may surprise some people, this is a noble effort to bring the Paramount name back to television.
