Background
Pathé UK is the United Kingdom-based subsidiary of Pathé that currently produces content for the premium television market. The company was formed in June 1997, when Pathé rebranded their Guild Pathé Cinema division as Pathé Distribution, after the company was granted a lottery to produce films in the United Kingdom in addition to acquisitions. Their home video unit, formerly Guild Home Video, followed suit under the name with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment continuing to distribute their titles.
On 12 March 2009, Pathé UK announced the closure of their UK/Ireland theatrical distribution unit and formed a new partnership with Warner Bros. Entertainment UK to handle the theatrical distribution of their titles. The move was made so Pathé UK could focus more on producing the development and production of its own titles instead of acquisitions. The partnership would allow the two companies working together to identify co-production opportunities. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment was retained as their home media distributor.
In February 2011, 20th Century Fox fully took over Pathé UK's theatrical distribution. Disney UK took over in Late-2019 after the purchase of Fox from Disney, and in 2021 it was reverted back to Warner Bros., now including home media rights.
In November 2023, following several box-office flops, Pathé UK exited the UK theatrical market and announced that they would instead transition into producing content for the premium television market. The company, however, continues to release the occasional French film from it's parent company.
